Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

This is very confusing - but I think this is what I had. This is the better of the Guinness products but still not all that awesome.

Not a bad beer overall but there are way better Stouts out there and this is not as good as Guinness Draught. Poured dark with a tan colored brownish head that was small. The bitterness was there but it really lacked any complexity to get earn over what I rated it. Not bad but not the best. This is defiantly better than some of the beers out there.

This bottle was brewed in Canada, and I don’t think it is as good as the real, Irish-brewed Guinness. Having said that, it wasn’t so bad. The colour was right, very dark with traces of creamy foam swirling throughout, and the head was properly creamy. Aroma was full of malt as was the taste, with a bit of sourness also.

[Bottle] Pours a very dark brown with a nice tan head. Seems to have a stronger flavor profile compared to most tap versions. Still has a dry and roasted character. The difference is it has a little more body (that could be because it isn’t force carbonated from the keg). Anyways, my conclusion is it’s slightly better than draft... but that doesn’t mean I’ll start buying it more.

Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan creamy coffee head. A nutty chewy malt aroma with hints of wood, almond, and vanilla. Chewy with a dry woody chocolate body and a light creamy finish. Toffee caramel and a light mineral finish. Nice, more abv would have made it superb.

Pours brown-black with a considerable amount of pale brown head. Aroma is a bit more present than Guinness Draught, but still a bit vague-a bit of roasted malt and yeast, perhaps. It begins very smooth and rather heavy with a quick followup of bitter coffee. Behind these main flavors, I can taste toffee, malts, and just the slightest hint of some light fruits (apricot and banana?), but I could just be making those last few up, they’re slight enough that it’s hard to tell. I have a good friend that loves Guinness Draught, but swears that this is the most filthy dishwater that he’s ever had the misfortune of pouring down his gullet. I don’t agree-it certainly isn’t the greatest beer out there, but I have had a lot worse.

This beer is by far the biggest difference between on tap and in bottles. I thought I disliked Guinness until I had it on tap, and now I love it. The mouthfeel is unbeatable. Take off a full 1.5 points if drinking from a can.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a very deep brown with small ruby highlights and a large, creamy, light brown head. Roasted malt, toast, caramel, and light coffee notes in the nose. Medium-low carbonation with a medium-rich mouthfeel. Caramel, roasted malt, lactose, and a bitter coffee note on the palate. Actually quite pleasant and a nice departure from Guinness Draught. Medium-short finish with a bit of mild bitterness lingering. Great lacing all the way down the glass. Overall a pretty decent stout!
