Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

I drank this after having the Guinness Draught and the initial flavor is similar but the extra stout has a very obvious bite to it. It’s really good though. I am a stout fan (or as big of a fan that a 21 year old can be) but this isn’t the best I’ve had. I would place this behind the Guinness draught and the Rogue Shakespear but ahead of the Bare Knuckle Stout. I am drinking this while I am writing this so it’s fairly accurate. LOL I drank this out of a shaker

I’ve always enjoyed thi one when I’m in the mood for dark. The fact that you can get it almost anywhere makes it almost a comfort beer.

Bottle. Large head that lasts and leaves some crusty lacing. Aroma is chocolate, malt, graham cracker, and metallic hops. Taste is chocolate malt on the front, but slides slowly into coffee. The finish is mostly dry, with a come-from-behind victory of grassy hops over a dark fruit and malt body. Palate is light-medium and dry. Pretty nice industrial brew.

Rated 8/18/06: This is a wonderful beer to look at, with a dark soft color and fluffy head this beer is beautiful. Not much aroma is given off, my nose can’t pick up much of anything. Mouthfeel is real good with a texture that is silky soft and smooth. Finishes with ease. The flavor is where I am most disappointed. Overall the taste is good, but I want more flavors in a stout. I don’t want to say Guinness is bland, but in a sense it really is.

Rated 8/18/06: I like the extra over the regular, there is a much stronger flavor which I enjoy in a hearty stout. Aroma is good slightly malty and a touch of sweetness. Pours great from the bottle into a pint glass, dark and creamy with a nice head, not as good as the draught can or from the tap since there is no cascade effect. Mouthfeel has more fullness than the regular also which is nice. Flavor is heavy with dark roasted malts, sweet and also bitter, very drinkable and always enjoyable.

12 oz. bottle. Roasted malt aroma features chocolate, a hint of lemon, a touch of coffee, tobacco, and soap scents. Pours a dark brown with an amber hue and a moderate to large amount of smooth, even, tan head. The liquid is clear, but the beer is dark enough that it appears opaque at first. Produces fairly extensive lacing. Sharp, dry, somewhat hoppy, coffee bitter taste. A not particularly appetizing sweet and sour character develops after multiple sips. Long, bitter finish. This is not a complicated beer, but I suppose it serves its purpose adequately. Long, dirt-like, bitter aftertaste. Light to medium body. A bit oily and course. This is a drinkable beer, but, frankly, it’s not very good. I will say that it blows away the more famous Guinness Draught, for whatever that’s worth.

Bottle; Pours a very dark brown with small tannish head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Flavor of roasted malt and coffee; very mellow. Some nuttiness as well. Body was a little on the light side. Prefer regular Guinness
