Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

A deep, dark beer with a thick strong taste to match. It really is stout. Roasted flavors with a cream head.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark black/brown with a frothy tan head that retains fairly well and laces the glass.

The aroma is musty yeast, metallic grains and some chocolate.

The flavor is grainy chocolate, coffee and a little slightly sour fruit with a burnt roasted bitter finish that lingers in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium with some sharp carbonation.

Overall, a decent dry stout. It’s much better than the nitro draught, but I’ve had much better stouts.

Finding this on tap with a bartender that really knows how to pull it is a blessing.

I enjoyed it but I also like dark beers, its a pretty common beer, nice smooth feeling with an earthy aroma and taste. Pretty good for the price

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized fluffy brown head. The head lingered nicely. The aroma was light toasted malt. The flavor was a bit gritty and had a nice presence of roasted/toasted malt. The finish was a bit bitter.

Most of my experience with Guinness has been the draft - which is probably why I have always had such a low opinion of their products. Finally I managed to get around to trying this one. Not bad at all. This one redeems the brewer in my eyes.

12oz bottle - I’m actually quite surprised I’ve never rated this one. Pours black with a fair tan head that stays well and leaves lace. Aromas of slight roasted malts, and a touch of coffee. Flavor is roasted malts, slight chocolate, and a little coffe. Dry throughout with medium body and a very dry finish. Slight bitterness at the finish. This is a solid brew and tends to be my standby...

12oz bottle - Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma of light roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is much the same with a dry finish. Palate is full bodied creamy and smooth. Quite drinkable when you want to have more than one stout but not as robust as other stouts I’ve tried. Basically what can you say about this one that hasn’t already been said.
