Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

Pours motor oil color with a tuft of head that stayed for the entirety of the evening. Nose is roasted malt, dark chocolate, hops and creamy sweetness. Flavor is watery malt and hops. Finishes with a terrible waft of the rings of hell. Very thin from what I remembered of Guinness. Give me an Mbege any day!

Oh I love me some Guinness. With age I’ve come to appreciate the stout beers especially Guinness. I have yet to try the European, UK and Ireland versions but all in due time. Pours a deep, rich thick super dark brown with about a full inch and a half head. Head was light brown and slowly dissipated. Flavor of roasty, maybe woody, slightly bitter brew. We’ll see if it’s true form is better.

The aroma is not quite to style. It’s only got a bitter hops element and alcohol as well as a toasted adjunct malt. The appearance is right, it’s dark brown with a large tan head. The flavor is awful. It’s astringently bitter with an over brewed coffee and corn finish. The palate is thin. This is actually bad.

I don’t know if it was just the lack of nitrogen and CO2 but this Guinness does taste different from its Draught brother. Smell is very rich with a toasted malt and caramel aroma. Color is dark brown and had a larger head than the draught version. Taste is much more acidic and bitter than the draught version. I feel like this one has a higher hops content as well. Same toasted maltiness that lasts through the finish. Sweet coffee and alcohol aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours a nice black with decent cream head. Good malt flavor but far too carbonated for its own good. A little bitter overall.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown, almost black color, with a thin, light and bubbly white head. Aroma is mostly sweet but subtle. Taste is similar to guinness draught in the watery base, but there is more to this.

Blah. this is just your typical run of the mill Guinness with carbonation. Not much of an aroma other than a little alcohol. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a 2 finger tan head. Taste was very bland. Roasted dark malt is detectable with a bitter hoppy aftertaste. Nice carbonation which makes the beer better than the draught version. Very dry, hence the name. Not terrible but very average.

Old numbers- Aroma 7 Appearance 4 Flavor 8 Palate 4 Overall 18- Total 4.1 Rated this out of memory before I actually tried any craft beer. Woke up. ------- the Guinness! The dark tan head with the milky taste makes it look almost like an ice cream float made with motor oil. Mcro light lager drinkers beware. This is the antithesis of all you adore! This beer begs to be drank in pints in Ireland with hobbits.
