Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

When your with an Scottsman who is brillent, who can remember to rate? I have drank this beer so many times, yet this time is was somehow sweeter. I even gave lessons in the qualities of lace and head. Great head, excellent aroma, smooth taste. Very very nice. I could "drink" this everynight...

It’s kinda hard to belive, but I found this in a shity corner store in a realy getto region of montreal. There are 2 kinds of guinness extra stout made in canada, no not the draught, just the extra stout. Guinness Ireland sends the original unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract to 2 places in canada. Labat makes the fermilar Local Guinness E.S. by adding said wort to a plae ale, and Guinness Canada {a small brewier in nova scotia} adds yeast and water to properly brew the stout. The guinness canada one is normaly exported exclusivley to the US, but for some {prpbably illegal} reason, I found a store with it here. This is probably the best dry stout I have ever had. Pours a jet black with a heavy dose of small carbonation bubbles, thin whispy coffie with cream head, quickly disapating, minimal lacenings. Aroma is coffie, sugar cane, and noble bitter hops. Palat is smooth and silky with a light dry finish. Taste is what it’s all about, cryin of irelen. Full flavour like there isn’t room to disove any more. Sweet dark chocolate malt, red ruby pumb malt, and roasted barley dancing with a very noble blend of earthy bitter hops. undertones of grapfruit, acidic tones, a slight sour bite, yellow plumb, green apple and a sweet burnt sugar finish. Robust after taste, nutty and sweet with a finaly of deep full mild bitterness. Gaz returns {burps} taste of roasted nut and dark chocolate. This is amasing. I must tell people about this discovery. Cheers.

Stop confusing this with the very diffrent Guinness Draught. Even though people only seem to sing the praises of draught, this is a little bit closser to the orignal 1759 version mentioned on both labels, the draught only came into exzistance in the early 1960’s, {although the original guinness was actualy a black porter that disapered some time in the 50’s, but I digress}. Ok, Pours black with whispy large bubbled head, quickly fades. Light carbonation, Malty nose, some nuttyness. Thick mouthfeel {somtimes slimy if it’s not fresh} Black Malt flavour, roasted barley, smoke, mild sweet caramel, and just the right amount of bitter hop to smoth it all out. Aftertaste is sweet, folowed by a {unfourtently} skunky finish. All in all a very nice beer from labat, very tasty and feels good in the blood. It makes me VERY qurious what the pale ale base that labat add’s the wort extract to would be like on it’s own. Cheers

This is the best beer out righ now in my book. First, it is the type of taste I like th most in beer. I am a bock person. Ya, I know this is not a bock but it is lot like like one. The color, the aroma and taste. It goes good with all types of food as well as being able to take a sixer with you with no ice it cant be beat. This really isnt a rating more of a hey go try some if you havent all ready. I think you will love this beer I do and always will. your friend ME

Guinness Extra Stout is, I think, one of the greatest beers ever crafted by man.
