Commercial Description:
The basis is an unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract shipped from Dublin, which is added to local ingredients and brewed locally. The abv may vary.

There is also another Guinness FES at 6.5% alcohol, brewed in Kenya, by Kenyan Breweries Ltd.

Editor's Note: Not sure at what point this went from 7.5% (the standard FES) to 6.5%. This entry is for Jamaican and the Kenyan FES' only - we don't know of any others at 6.5% but if you see one let us know.

Bottle (Jamaican version) courtesy of biegaman - many thanks, Jan! Deep, deep brown (almost black) with a large tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, molasses, charred coffee beans, and something that I couldn’t quite place, but that reminded me a bit of roasted banana. Body is a touch lighter than expected, but still fairly full. Flavour starts fairly sweet, with the expected coffee and chocolate notes, but then an interesting dry/sour character comes through, reminding me that I’m drinking a Guinness, albeit a much stronger one than usual. A nice treat.

Bottle (Jamaican version). A drink very familiar to me. Aroma is very pungent, with roasted malts dominating the chocolate and coffee notes. Pours a thick black beer with a beige head. Taste is malty, with hops and chocolate predominant. Very tasty and perfect for a summer’s day by the bbq.

I brought a few of these back from a trip to Jamaica in 2006. I really enjoyed the malty flavor and sweetness. Good coffee and chocolate flavor. Much different than the Guinness most are used to. Pretty srong beer. The natives kept telling me: "it will put lead in your pencil"...not so sure about that one...LOL.

Bottle (330ml). The Kenyan version - courtesy of garthicus - muchas gracias, Al!!!. Rating #2800. Oily opaque essentially black pour with a large lasting fluffy mottled tan/beige lasting head, nice curtains of lace. Lovely thick molasses/nutoil heavily roasted malt aroma, reasonably sweet, but also somewhat dry ... I get strong turkish coffee with hints of hazelnut and cream. The taste has light coffee and cream, nutshell, herbal/mint hop bitterness; a little sweet. Creamy, somewhat frothy mouthfeel, somewhat reminiscent of a frappachino - quick finish and a light mocha aftertaste. I quite liked it!

Kenya - Bottle, Pours black with a dirty yellow head. Malt and coffee aroma, initial flavour - malt and chocolate but transforms into a sour toffee finish, enjoyable

Great "stout-like" aroma. Roasted, vanilla/sweetness. Very tasty, and very refreshing (had super cold), with a nice roasted fig flavor. Noticably stronger than your average Guinness, in a good way. I really liked this, and enjoyed the higher octain flavors.

Lovingly brought back for consumption by my friend and yours, Ando, on his return from Africa, the Dark Continent. Appearance: Pours a black body with a full, though quickly thinning, ivory-colored head. Smell: Drat, the aroma’s not nearly as expressive as I had hoped. Only a thin, thin measure of chocolate along with frown-inducing vegetal notes. Taste: Light chocolate and molasses flavors with only a mild sweetness. Again, that vegetal trait rears it’s ugly head. Hop bitterness and roastiness, both light, on the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: It literally felt like there was disappointment in my mouth.
