Commercial Description:
The basis is an unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract shipped from Dublin, which is added to local ingredients and brewed locally. The abv may vary.

There is also another Guinness FES at 6.5% alcohol, brewed in Kenya, by Kenyan Breweries Ltd.

Editor's Note: Not sure at what point this went from 7.5% (the standard FES) to 6.5%. This entry is for Jamaican and the Kenyan FES' only - we don't know of any others at 6.5% but if you see one let us know.

275ml bottle acquired in trade with goldtwins (thanks!). Bottle labeled BB March ’07. Poured a dark black color (almost brown) with a smaller sized tan head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, caramel, some dark fruits and a little buttery. Tastes of tart cherries, green apples, light chocolate, and caramel. A little on the tart and sour side with the butteriness not as apparent in the tastes. Light lacing left on the glass. A bit of a let down with the Belgian Version still on my mind of how good a Guinness can be.

Thanks to hopdog for this... Jamaican version... Appears a light black with brown edges and a small tan head. Smell is of buttery, caramel, light, mildly sour toffee. Taste is of the same aromas with a caramel sweetness standing out. Mouthfeel is chewy, and medium bodied.

Poured a dark brown color, small, tan head, that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, caramel, nuts, light diactyl, with raisins, and chocolate. Taste of chocolate, sweet caramel, roast, tart apple, cherries, and a bitter finish, also somewhat acidic.

Kenyan version sampled on 9/29/07: Pours a mostly opaque with a small, but frothy dark tan head. Aroma of slightly sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts with a hint of roast. Body starts fairly full and lightly caramel malty sweet with some chocolate and a drier, roasty finish. I like this a little more than the Jamaican version, but not as much as the other FES versions.

Jamaican version sampled on 4/24/06: Pours a nearly opaque dark brown with a thin off-white head. Lightly sweet milk chocolate toasted caramel and mild acidity with lots of licorice in the aroma. Starts with an earthy palate, some semi-sweet malt and a tart, lightly fruity character. Not very true to style and the acidity is unwanted, but otherwise a decent beer.

A very nice break from all the Red Stripe that is everywhere in Jamaica. This country definitely lives up to the stereotype more than anywhere else I’ve ever been. Glad to have this amidst the few other options they have there.

Really had to dig to find the malt aroma,black and long lasting head,bitter malt taste a black patent malt bitterness and sharpness in the swallow dry as can be, a harsh carbonated mouth feel. I’ll stick with the draught

Thanks to my friend AC for bringing me back a bottle from Jamacia. Smells like Asti champine with coffee. Apperance was dark but bubbley. Dry, malty, bitter sweetness with a touch of coffee flavor. No hops or yeast flavor. Not really satisfing for my taste buds. The head did last longer than other stouts. Also had a number under the cap saying text or call this number. What is up with that?

Poured a dark brown color with a light tan head. The aroma is sweet and failry tart with a good amount of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is very acidic and tart. Tasted like those chocolate sodas. Roasty with bitterness of the finish. It was pretty tart and I didn’t expect it to be to this degree. I was disappointed after having the Belgian version.
