Aroma is caramel, chocolate, raiisn and roasted malt. Deep black with a two finger thick mocha head...very Guinness looking. The fore presents prunes, raisins, burnt pumperknikela nd roasted malt. Finish is very toasty and raisin sweet. very smooth mouthfeel. I wish Guinness draft tasted like this. Feels like an Imperial Schwarzbier. Very nice. Some nice roasty malts as well especially as it warms up. fishonmyplane (125), Newington, Connecticut, USA

It has a great roasty flavor, nearly perfect appearance, and just enough alcohol to give it a nice little kick. Oh and forget refrigeration, this beer is best served the way the locals like it: at around 80 degrees! DanielBrown (1919), Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, England

This has a strong, slightly sweetened roast flavour, with a element of real roast power. Very easy to drink and smooth. After Red Stripe all week, this is deliciously full and satisfying. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 7, 2005 Sampled from bottle. My samples were the 6.5% version brewed at D&G, Kingston JA, WI. Pours thick, opaque, black with a thick, sudsy, tan head. Aroma is simple: just sweetness reminiscent of molasses and a hint of coffee. Slightly bitter flavor with rich toasted malts, mocha and some brown sugar. Full-bodied and well-carbonated. Suprisingly easy to drink. I drank mine on the beach in a humid, 88 degree temps and they still went down easy. Best of all, I loved the look on the bewildered Jamaican bartenders’ faces when my wife would order a foreign extra stout. Priceless. BlueDevil0206 (122), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 28, 2005 Bottled. Pours a epitomical Guinness black with a perfect dark brown head that lasts and lasts. Aroma was sour, I mean really sour (yeah I know they use a sour mash but this was intense) with some moderate roastiness and a bit of earthy hops. Flavor, was much less sour which allowed the roastiness and chalky bitterness come through more. A bit of hops was perceived though mostly hop bitterness. Finishes very dry and chalky. Body was thicker than draught Guinness but could have been a bit higher but carbonatioin was perfect. Best thing from Guinness I’ve had, but nothing too special. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 27, 2005 This beer made its way to a tasting yesterday. I’ve not been overwhelmed by anything from Guinness before, and this didn’t blow me out of the water, but it was good. Nice aroma of roasted malt, but very one dimensional. Flavor is of roasted malt, some dried fruit, and a nice background sourness from sour mash. The US "Extra stout" version takes this sourness a bit too far, I think. Finish is a little dry and short lived. Better than Guinness here... afatty (6), North Carolina, USA does not count | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 26, 2005 Looks like... Guinness very dark with some ruby undertones. Dark tan but almost non-existant head. Strange to see no "Tiny Bubbles" playing along the side of the glass. First non-draft version in a long time. Smells like .. nice rosted malt with dark fruit. Taste... sour rather than the expected malt sweetness in the US version of the brew. Seems to be more viscous and coats the glass as well although no lacing left. Guess I need to become a world travler to sample the other versions. Thanks to my Philly beer buds for the trade..
