SilkTork (3853), Rochester, Kent, England Mar 20, 2003 Updated: Mar 23, 2005 March, 2003.Good yeasty nose like a Belgium beer. The initial impression is the deep smooth creaminess, then the fruits come through - very wet and juicy, packing a good raspberry punch. The salty bitterness follows - intensely tangy. This is nothing like the standard Guinness. I can see why the Nigerians in London don’t drink the London brewed Guinness. This is intense! [4.3]
Christmas Day, 2004: I bought a bottle for my son, and we shared it on Christmas Day. I have grown to love this beer. I have compared it to other versions of Guinness, and this always comes out on top. [4.4]
March, 2005 I don’t know if it is because of the sorghum or because the beer is unfiltered - so, effectively bottle-conditioned - but the Nigerian Guinness realy is one of the world’s most splendid beers. Dark bitter chocolate and bitter herbs in a soft sweet chocolate base. Refreshing red wine acidity. Everything and more. [4.8]
Skinnyviking (2590), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. High fluffy lasting light brtown head. Very dark almost black body. Sweet coffee nuts vanilla aroma. Some hops bitterness comes through in the flavor but the vanilla is milding that and flavor of coffee a lot. General impression: Pretty sweet. Low carbonation. Long aftertaste. Sigmund (1896), Hafrsfjord, Norway Aug 9, 2008 330 ml bottle, at the GBBF 2008. ABV was 7.5%. Served too cold. Pitch black colour, moderate head. Roasty aroma, notes of rubber, malts and coffee. The flavour is heavily roasted / burnt with grainy and rubbery notes - quite strange. I hate it and love it - simultaneously. leaparsons (3878), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Aug 2, 2008 600ml bottle. Black with a beige foam. Aromas are roast malts with lots of raisin fruitiness. Also has some light woody, smoky notes. Flavours are bitter coffee followed by sweet creaminess and dark fruit. The Sorghum gives it some gluten free beer character but its far better than the majority of those. tjthresh (1275), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Jul 28, 2008 Pours opaque black with a light brown head that leaves some spotty lace behind. Odd aroma. Its fruity. Cooked raisins? Sorghum, I guess. I’m not sure I’ve ever dealt with sorghum before. Odd is all I can really say about it. Come different flavors than I’m used to as well. Dark fruit juice, smoke, lots of roast, and a bit of oxidation. Medium body, creamy, highly carbonated and dry. I nice beer. Thanks cgarvieuk. thewolf (3490), Kolding, Denmark Jul 14, 2008 Bottle, bought in a corner shop in Vienna.
Pours deep mahogany with a nice, creamy, beige head. Aroma is lightly fruity, pleasant black currants, roasted malts, yeast and a little bit of oak. Good, creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is lightly tart, powerfully roasted. Some coffee and pleasantly vinious. Lovely.
