Commercial Description:
Higher in alcohol content than other Guinness products, this stout has a strong, oaky, complex flavor.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria and Ghana should be rated here.

Bottle from The Bottleneck, Broadstairs: Poured a rich black with a niuce tan head. Lot of chocolate flavours, the alcohol makes itself known very quickly. Not as good as it’s Nigerian brother, but a very nice stout nonetheless.

Pretty good. Had this one in london. Has a more robust flavor than the draught, but thats to be expected. It feels a bit more carbonated than the draught as well. Toasted, oaky flavor and a mildly bitter finish. I would reccomend it but I would also say that I prefer the original draught to this one.

I enjoy this more than it’s little brother. It’s a loaf of bread in a bottle.

(Bottled at the Brewery Bar, Guinness Storehouse on 2008-07-02) Black. Medium-sized tan head. Chocolate and little hops in nose. Quite amount of carbonation in full palate. Chocolate, some alcohol, sweetness in taste. Slight bite from hops. Nice.

Bottled Irish version. Pours jet black but holding it to light reveals a ruby tinge at the extreme edges. Frothy tan head that didn’t last but didn’t disappear completely, either. Coffee in the aroma with a faint hint of fuggles hops. Initial light sweetness gives way to an intense bitterness. Medium-full body with lively carbonation leads to a long, bitter finish. One bottle easily leads to two which, at 7.5%, can lead to trouble. Benefits from time in the fridge but I wouldn’t recommend serving it too cold.

I do not care for this beer nearly as much as I care for the Draught. This beer smells burnt. It pours nicely and has a nice thick dark head. It is very bitter and heavy. Sometimes it is good for something different but I mainly use it to make my batter for fish and chips!

Completely different from Guinness Draught in Ireland. Had this in Freetown, Sierra Leone where it is actually brewed in the same factory as the local Star beer. Pours motoroil black with little head almost fizzing up like Coca-Cola and then settling down quickly. Initial taste is sort of bitter chocolate and the 7.5% ABV is not completely hidden. Then it is somewhat spicy- goes great with West African food! The roasted malt is also prevalent and the beer sort of coats the mouth for a little and then dissipates. Definitely 100% better luke-warm then cold.
