Commercial Description:
Higher in alcohol content than other Guinness products, this stout has a strong, oaky, complex flavor.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria and Ghana should be rated here.

Drank it in Paradise (local restaurant) that brings beers during holiday season. Guinness is great to drink anywhere even in El Salvador. Pours the classic, deep brown color with a beatiful tan head. Beefy, coffee, chocolate, delicious....

had a friend bring me a bottle back from his trip through europe. pours pitch black with none of that heavy carbonation like stock guinness. large tan head that fades fast. very strong smell of malt and a little coffee. the taste is big heavy malt that fades into a dry coffee and a little dark chocolate finish. did a good job of hiding any alcohol. oops forgot to rate first time...

Pours as black as black can be, slightly off white head, very strong series of flavours, coffee, heavy malts, dark chocolate, coffee, espresso...covers so many bases. Is this really the same brand even that is sold in pubs on tap??. Very special.

Pours almost jet black with a milk-chocolate colored head. Aroma is of coffee and roasted malt. Taste is delicious... with flavors from caramel, to roasted coffee, to coffee and oaken flavor as well. 1 pt. 6 oz. bottle.

Poured from a bottle. Poured a deep brown color with ruby highlights and a nice tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and some coffee. Flavor is mostly roasted malts, with some chocolate and coffee, and a bit of bitterness and nuttiness on the finish. Pretty nice.

Bottle. I prefer this to the draught. Nice and easy to drink. Not sure why , better taste and finish to me.

Thanks to Homerwantsbeer for sharing a bottle from his travels. The beer pours nearly black with a bit of amber around the edges. Medium thick and foamy dark beige head that dissipates steadily, and rings of lacing. The aroma consists of coffee, roasted malt and molasses. Rich, roasty body with coffee, chocolate and burnt malt flavors. Some bitter hops shine through as well. The finish is bitter coffee and hops with malty/chocolatey undertones. Leaves a hoppy aftertaste that lingers awhile. Miles better than the "regular" Guinness.

I like the Nigerian version better for its syrup qualities but this one has the complexity regular Guinness lacks such as a heavier cereal mix with more bitter tones, roastedness and well hidden alcohol. I would say this is better crafted than the Nigerian cousin I just sipped but it seems a bit overloaded as far as flavors are concerned.
