Commercial Description:
Higher in alcohol content than other Guinness products, this stout has a strong, oaky, complex flavor.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria and Ghana should be rated here.

I like the Nigerian version better for its syrup qualities but this one has the complexity regular Guinness lacks such as a heavier cereal mix with more bitter tones, roastedness and well hidden alcohol. I would say this is better crafted than the Nigerian cousin I just sipped but it seems a bit overloaded as far as flavors are concerned.

50cl bottle from russia, thanks to Chad. Black with a nice tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate and some alcohol. Very dark, roasted malt flavor, and a lot of alcohol mixed in, almost like a white wine. Slightly sweet with some bitterness from the malts. thick and smooth body. The alcohol is was too present in the flavor. Definitely not the better of the foreign stouts I’ve had. It’s like Guinness draught with more alcohol and body, and It’s not working so well, but not too bad overall. A little hard to finish though.

330ml bottle - pours near black, with a thick tan head. Aroma of coffee, heavily roasted malt, dark sour fruit. Slight alchohol in the nose. Flavour is very dense, heavy and roasty, lots of coffee and sour cherries, with chocolate rounding out the finish. Mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Very good stout, in many ways similar to an American imperial. Alcohol warms in the finish as well at the back of the throat. Really good.

So much better than the draught. It is not as smooth but easier to drink. does that make sense?

Small off-license in Dalston, London E8. St James Gate Brewery, for export to UK or Belgium/Holland judging by languages on bottle. For me, better than the Nigeria version, the increased subtlety leading to a deeper and more complex feel. Dense and moderately sour. -- I have grown to prefer the nigerian version, over the course of the last year.
