Awesome rich toasty warmness, bitter chocolate and coffee. Light fruityness, and light diecytle butteryness, lingering bitterness, that slowly reveals nice hop flavour. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2005 Updated: May 24, 2005Proof that Guinness can still make a bloody good stout. This is streets ahead of the mediocre draught. Poured tar black with a monstrous tan marshmallow head. Good head retention, nice lacing. Aroma is much more inviting and to style than the nitro-draught’s current dessert trolley mix. This is dry and toasty, with notes of cocoa powder, coffee grounds, marshmallow, burnt rubber and port-like alcohol. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy but nicely carbonated. Feels much more substantial and stout-like than the draught. Initial taste impression is sweet and malty, with plenty of dark fruit and wood. However, the real kicker is that intensely bitter Guinness kick in the finish which is missing from the draught but magnificently present here, along with a wine-like alcoholic finish. This has restored my flagging faith in the brand. (33cl bottle, Amatos, best before 16/4/05) Papsoe (15109), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Brownish, thick cappuchino-like head. Extremely potent and rich with lots of bitterness - from both hops and malts. A bit difficult to finish. 230302
(Bottle) Cameroon version: Pitch black with a brownish head. Roasted, malty nose - and a strange, indefinable not so pleasant smell. Surprisingly light-bodied, sweetish malt but yet rather dry. The notes of the burned malt are rather subdued - sort of a "stout light", but not at all unpleasant. 5/4/7/3/12=3,1 170705 TinyClanger (40), West Sussex, West Sussex, England
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 17, 2005 Mmm. Roast barley aroma, rich thick tan head on an (unsurprisingly) black beer. Sweetish roasty taste with a long-lasting aftertaste that’s sour but with buttery hints. green (187), Boston, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Mar 1, 2005 Stout black. Brown head, retains somewhat, laces decently. Dry, acidic, vinous, note of toast with mabey a bit of burnt toast. Medium bodied. Long very bitter finish. Although stouts are usually considered hearty, this I found this one as refreshing as pilsner.
