Commercial Description:
Higher in alcohol content than other Guinness products, this stout has a strong, oaky, complex flavor.

Editor’s Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica, Nigeria and Ghana should be rated here.

Quite sweet flavor, fruity, sourly and notes of candies. Quite bitter, dry and astringent finish. Few fruitiness, but more hoppiness and roasted malt as the nigerian version.

Dense and plentiful foam, mighty persistent and skin tight. Black color, much somber and inscrutable. Decide and much strog scent, slightly hidden from a solid head- Notes of coffee, bitters chocolate and ash. Dry taste, much bitter and of very long persistence. Cocoa and coffee pips fragrance. Excellent length of smells and taste.

Black opaque, thick dark head, lasting. toasty chocolate, nuts, some fruit, saltanas in aroma very light sourness. Awesome rich toasty warmness, bitter chocolate and coffee. Light fruityness, and light diecytle butteryness, lingering bitterness, that slowly reveals nice hop flavour.

The Islands’ version. A good stout, though there are many better ones. Night and day to the Guiness draft beers being sent here domestically. Very Bitter, fruity, creamy, roasty and burnt parts. Black, cocoa poweder, malts. Drinkable. Thanks Viggio.

Proof that Guinness can still make a bloody good stout. This is streets ahead of the mediocre draught. Poured tar black with a monstrous tan marshmallow head. Good head retention, nice lacing. Aroma is much more inviting and to style than the nitro-draught’s current dessert trolley mix. This is dry and toasty, with notes of cocoa powder, coffee grounds, marshmallow, burnt rubber and port-like alcohol. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy but nicely carbonated. Feels much more substantial and stout-like than the draught. Initial taste impression is sweet and malty, with plenty of dark fruit and wood. However, the real kicker is that intensely bitter Guinness kick in the finish which is missing from the draught but magnificently present here, along with a wine-like alcoholic finish. This has restored my flagging faith in the brand. (33cl bottle, Amatos, best before 16/4/05)

(Bottle 33 cl) Irish version: Fat, tar-like opaque beer. Brownish, thick cappuchino-like head. Extremely potent and rich with lots of bitterness - from both hops and malts. A bit difficult to finish. 230302

(Bottle) Cameroon version: Pitch black with a brownish head. Roasted, malty nose - and a strange, indefinable not so pleasant smell. Surprisingly light-bodied, sweetish malt but yet rather dry. The notes of the burned malt are rather subdued - sort of a "stout light", but not at all unpleasant. 5/4/7/3/12=3,1 170705

Mmm. Roast barley aroma, rich thick tan head on an (unsurprisingly) black beer. Sweetish roasty taste with a long-lasting aftertaste that’s sour but with buttery hints.

Stout black. Brown head, retains somewhat, laces decently. Dry, acidic, vinous, note of toast with mabey a bit of burnt toast. Medium bodied. Long very bitter finish. Although stouts are usually considered hearty, this I found this one as refreshing as pilsner.
