Commercial Description:
Higher in alcohol content than other Guinness products, this stout has a strong, oaky, complex flavor.

Editor's Note: This is the standard FES. Sometimes it is imported from Ireland but more often it is brewed locally. This version is most common in the Caribbean and Africa. All versions from those places, save for Jamaica and Nigeria, should be rated here.

Bottled Irish version. Pours jet black but holding it to light reveals a ruby tinge at the extreme edges. Frothy tan head that didn’t last but didn’t disappear completely, either. Coffee in the aroma with a faint hint of fuggles hops. Initial light sweetness gives way to an intense bitterness. Medium-full body with lively carbonation leads to a long, bitter finish. One bottle easily leads to two which, at 7.5%, can lead to trouble. Benefits from time in the fridge but I wouldn’t recommend serving it too cold.

33cl botttle @ VinensVerden, Odense. Pours black with a creamy brown head & lacings. Nose is milky chocolate, light roast & dark dried fruits. Creamy & smooth mouthfeel. Taste has mild roasted coffee notes & chocolate. Sticky palate. This is just wonderful, could drink this everyday!

Bottle, Courtesy of Slothez. Had forgotten about this which is quite widely available and far superior to bog standard Guinness. Black pour with a fair light brown head. Soft roasted malts mix with chocolate and light coffee notes. Smooth and creamy with a well rounded body and some bitterness in the finish. Not as good as the Belgian version but still pretty tasty.

Bottle in St. Croix. Poured a dark black with a two finger brown head. Aroma of liquorice and roasted malt. Flavor was sweet and nutty. Good but not great.

This was refreshing after a previous sub par stout I had. A complex blackcurrant and liquorice aroma blends with those lovely burnt roast aromas. follows through into an oily mouth feel thats full of flavour and enough hops to round it out. cracking stuff.
