kwoeltje (1230), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jul 15, 2007 (draught - Shannon Airport) A bit darker black than regular Guinness with nice tan head. Roast malt aroma. Flavor is roast malt with some coffee; maybe a bit fuller bodied than regular Guinness. Enniskillen (1624), Port Angeles, Washington, USA Jun 26, 2007 Draft, Quality Inn, Cork City, IRE. Roasty aroma, light chocolate notes. Taste is much like the regular Guinness, but didn’t have the mettalic aspec to it, wasn’t bad at all. rustychiles (544), Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 5, 2008 On tap @ Bewleys Hotel and St James Gate in Dublin. Pours a nice deep black with a nice nitro brown head just like any other Guinness does. Aroma of Guinness, but with a little more sweetness. Flavor is much the same........the bitterness in Guinness has been balanced out with more malt sweetness. I like it better than original guinness for sure. badgerben (3234), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Sep 15, 2007 On tap at the brewery. Black color with a large head. Light aroma of a flowery English hop. The taste and body is very similar to regular Guinness with a slightly sweet almost sour malt base and a bit of bitterness, but North Star seems to have a bit of the coffee and chocolate character that is common with many microbrew stout. Not vastly superior to regular Guinness, but a little step up in my opinion. mike1977ok (373), Netherlands Feb 1, 2007 Re:rate. Read my notes wrong.
Has a fruitier aroma than regular Guinness but still maintains a lot of roasted malt. Quite clean and thin feeling on the pallet, not very bitter at all. Slight liquorice on the end. Good for a session.
