Dark brown color with a huge light brown head that diminished slowly with excellent lacing. Good roasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Moderate roasted malt flavor with a small dry bitter finish of average duration. DuffMan (2778), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada

Chalky aroma with a faintly charred character. As it warmed and the head receded it took on a more molasses kind of aroma. Sweet palate, mostly chocolate with mild fruit and a hint of smokiness. Pleasant heavy mouthfeel. The acidity is definitely noticable, and gives this beer a mouth-watering quality that keeps you wanting to sip and sip and sip.... harrisoni (6946), Ashford, Kent, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jan 7, 2006 33cl bottle. Spurred on by SilkTork’s thread on this beer, I got around to actually rating it. Black colour with brown on the edges, lasting beige head. Burnt malt aromas, some toffee too. Some dark fruit. Bit tinny on the carbonation. Finish has choc, coffee, but just a tad thin. Nice though CamdenD (625), Madrid, Spain

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2005 Bottle from 1953. A very beautiful specially made coronation bottle with the Royal Crest and ER 1953 on the back. The crown cab seemed to be made of iron as it was quite hard to get off. Poured Black with no head. Smelled of metals. Sweet portlike stout with aromas of vanilla and iron. Still a hint of CO2! Dry portlike finish. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

Flavor had a nice bitter bite to it. This one is better than the North America version. blankboy (3258), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 23, 2005 Can shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of tupalev. 7 year-old can!! 7 YEARS!! The first thing I said before we poured this was "Do you think there’s any chance this is still good?" I certainly had my doubts. Amazingly it held up very well. Pours a dark reddish-brown with an average size brown head. Very mild aroma of roasted malt. The flavour of smoky caramel malt and roasted coffee was a touch stale but that’s to be expected given the age of it, but that still didn’t deter from the enjoyment of this fine beer. This beer is not even in the same league as the North American Guinness, it’s so much better. Thanks tupalev for this rare treat! GregClow (2516), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

A seven(!) year old can, purchased from a shop in Dublin (still had the 89p price tag!). Pours a very dark ruby-brown with a wispy tan head. Aroma is smoky and roasty, very inviting. Body is thinner than I expected, possibly a sign of age. The flavour doesn’t seem to have siffered, though - it’s full and toasty and quite dry, with a strong note of fresh roasted coffee beans. A fine treat indeed - thanks to Jeff for holdng on to this for so long and sharing it with us!
