Trots en beska som skjuter med bredsidan, och en fyllighet som heter duga, är den ändå varsam - tassande. Smak av kaffe, choklad och tjära. smcolw (366), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA

I know most swear that the version in Ireland is significantly different from America, but I am not one of them. While I prefer Murphy’s because it is "smoother" to me, this is still one of the world’s great beers. Allen (1416), Switzerland

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 21, 2009 Canned, typically dark with a thickish beige head. Full bodied, packed with roast malt flavours, hints of coffee too. I have to say that even though this is cosidered to be a classic, I find this version a tad unbalanced,a bit on the rough side. I prefer the draught, and the canned draught versions, the nitrogen does it for me...every time! espenra (296), Oslo, Norway
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 21, 2008 33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. It poured a deep black colour with a medium big beige foamy head that settled down very slowly in the glass. Aroma is roasted malts, dark roasted coffee and raisins. The flavour is very dry and bitter with notes of vinegar, roasted malts, and dark chocolate. It has a short aftertaste. Unfortunately the vinegar is too dominant and this ruins the flavour for me. I hope this is just a bad bottle, because it should not taste like this. MoritzF (4995), Bochum, Germany
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 28, 2008 (33cl bottle, 4.1% abv) Clear, dark brown colour with a big and dense beige foamy head. Dusty and sweet, slightly roasted malty nose with subtle fruity notes with a touch of cacao and licorice. Bitter and minimal sweet flavour, slim bodied and soft on carbon. Toasty and slightly ashy malty taste, moderately dry, especially towards the finish, accompanied by notes of cacao and licorice; assertive aftertaste with notes of cacao. Not bad, but not a real highlight (28.XI.08).
