A pitch black beer with a beutiful head. It doesn’t have much aroma but hints of smoked malt. The flavor is that of smoked malt with some hop bitterness. All in all a very drinkable beer among the more fullbodied beers.

(Bottle 33 cl) The quintessence of Irish beer - no less. Pitch black with a pretty brownish head, albeit no nitrogen in this bottled version. Very dry, almost ashy with a lasting bitterness all the way through. The mother of dry stouts....Mine was 5% ABV. 101200

Canned. Deep rubyish black colour with small off/white creamy head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, some bitternessas well as ashes. Flavour is all the same with a quite mouthdrying finish. Tasty.

33cl bottle. Spurred on by SilkTork’s thread on this beer, I got around to actually rating it. Black colour with brown on the edges, lasting beige head. Burnt malt aromas, some toffee too. Some dark fruit. Bit tinny on the carbonation. Finish has choc, coffee, but just a tad thin. Nice though

Can from London, abv. 4.2% (rated at home, BB 01/2010).
Almost opaque black color, good tan head, some lace. Light roasted aroma with milky notes. Smooth mouthfeel. Milk chocolaty roasted aftertaste, a bit of sweet milk chocolate and ash. Much better than last Guinness Draughts I’ve had. Roasted aftertaste.

Black with a nice head. The aroma has notes of licorice and smoke, and the flavour has notes of licorice, tar, smoke and a nice bitterness.
