(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Black colour with huge, firm, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate and dark rye bread. Sweetish and rather discreet. Roasted, malty taste with smooth notes of chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. Rather smooth and discreet but with fiery, vinous undertones. A bit different than other verisons, more smooth and chocolatey, but with an underlying powerful, fiery bite. Nice one.

Bottle, 33 cl. Black beer with a large brown head drunk from a coffee-cup. Smells semi-pleasantly, earthy. tastes earthy too, with a bit of smoke, bitter and a little sweetness too. Aftertaste is even better than the initial taste. A medium-lasting pleasant bitter taste. A good beer

Deep black beer with a thick tan head. Aroma is a bit earthy with some soft molasses and an unusual carbonic aroma, that I tend to associate with homebrewing. Strong roasty aroma but there is also a metallic character that is quite distracting. Flavour is quite coffeeish with heavy roasted barley and a long lingering earthy bitterness. It’s quite simple really, sort of an intro Imperial stout rather than a foreign stout as listed. Nowhere near as good as the Nigerian version.

Bottle for €1.50 or so. Strong burnt, charred, absolutely carbonized wood aroma. Same kind of thing in the taste, kind of tastes like biting into a sausage that’s been on fire for a few minutes. Light coconut or marshmallow tastes perhaps but I’m really just digging. If this is the best they can offer to try to win over the Belgian market to stouts that is pretty sad.

Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, sweet chocolate, nuts, smoke, ash, and sticky dried fruits. Taste of smoke, and sweet, chocolate, with toffee, light nuts, tobacco, and faint alcohol. Dry finish.

Luzern-07. My favourite of the Guinness line. Pours black with dark brown head. Nose is quite hoppy with roasted coffee and liquorice notes. Very full bodied and quite sweet.
