maeib (4106), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Jul 30, 2005 Bottled. A big black beer with a lovely coffee coloured head. The aroma is full and malty with toffee, fudge and coal. The taste is also very full with malts, caramel and coal. Not the roastiest of stouts but oh so tasty.
yalnikim (676), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 30, 2008 Tasted 30/10/2008. 330ml bottle all to myself, after sharing one with Steve and Sam last week. Beautiful looking beer: black, with an inviting tan foam and clinging lace. Awesome aroma: sweet malts, toast, fresh berry fruit. Fabulous flavour: toasty malt dominates but is perfectly balanced with fruit and herb notes, and just enough sweetness. Lovely lingering liquorice note and subtle fruit esters in the roasty palate. Great bottle and great label. It’s just a shame that when you turn the bottle around there is another label full of EU junk. The frontside tell me all I want to know, and all that anyone should need to. Needless regulations aside, a splendid beer. TheGrandMaster (1526), Auckland, New Zealand Oct 24, 2008 Bottle courtesy of yalnikim (in NZ), pours black with a think beige head. The aroma is full of licorice and alchohol. Lots of licorice in the mouth again, now with a citrus tang. A good medium mouthfeel, though maybe a touch syrupy in the finish. weaselkenievil (397), Cheshire, England Oct 11, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Phil L and beermerchants.com. Cheers mate! I’ve always loved the guiness foreign extra stout, used to drink it as a child. First time I’ve had the Belgian version though. Pours a very dark brown with a creamy looking head than the biscuit brown I’m used to. Still smells beautiful and knocks the normal Guinness into a cocked hat. Very nice, love it. GAManiac (446), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 4, 2008 33cl bottle.
Pours dark, dark brown out of the bottle and settles in as black in the glass with a huge rocky tan head that lasted for ages and left great lacing. The aroma is a little better than draught with a slightly more evident chocolate malt backbone but with the bitterness I expected. The taste, however, was much more complex than i expected. It has the roasted malt backbone but with milk chocolate sweetness balanced with some coffee bitterness in the finish. Very, very nice flavor. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with good carbonation with the patented Guinness creaminess. This is a revelation compared to standard Guinness and I’m lucky I got the chance to try this one. cellar (410), Dublin, Ireland Sep 5, 2008 Pitch black, black tiny head, strong aroma of hard burned malt with lots of liqourice and dark chocolate. some spices developes in mouth. Flavour is mainly sweet with some dryness and bitternes in finish. Why dont they serve this in Ireland????
