Commercial Description:
Gulden Draak is a dark brown Triple Ale, which makes it an exception among the Belgian Triples. The second fermentation offers the nice creamy head, the full body and all the vitamins of the centuries old brewers yeast. It is a "thick" beer, that you can actually "eat" to adventure the complex taste. Gulden Draak balances a natural malt toffee-like sweetness with a mellow happiness and some hoppy accents. The aroma is round, sweet and reveals the 10.5 alcohol by volume.

Tasted 4/20/09. 330ml bottle. Activated pour is of a sedimented body and a dark brown hue. Finger width of beige head. Quality Belgian nose. Complex and intense. Toffee, blueberries and citrus. Strawberries and a faint trace of mint. Plums and red grapes. The aromas are very inviting. Full bodied and sweet. Once again, nice complexity with a tight focus on the fruit and berry nuances. Initial bready malt. Long and lingering palate. After the initial, it goes toward a grape and plum note. Then the dried raisins and touch grapefruit. The abv is apparent but not totally overwhelming. Good roll and solid style!

White Bottle 33cl. Dark brown color with a tall white head. Aroma is fruity and sweet. Taste is also fruity and sweet, malty, notes of brown sugar and caramel. Smooth mouthfeel and thick. Low bitterness

Bottle. Poured a large, frothy, off-white head with a clear, ruby colored body. Heavy malt aroma of caramel, toffee, spice and light alcohol. Grape, peach and cherry all come through in the flavor - very fruity malt flavors. Well-hidden alcohol - I would have guessed 7% or so from the palate, but the warm feeling in my throat and stomach confirms the 10.5%. Medium body with a very slight alcoholic texture and average carbonation. Overall a really drinkable and warming beer. It didn’t blow me away, but was very enjoyable.

Not a huge fan. One dimensional. figgy, plummy, sweet, uber malt. No texture, just slippery sweet. I remember enjoying this much more last time I tried it.

Dark yellow pour, very opaque. Light head. Sweet aroma, of Sweet Tarts. Very interesting and inventive. Light feel over the palate with a tingling sensation. Sweet flavors greet the drinker. No alcohol is tasted but is certainly felt. The sweet notes continue to linger after the finish. Wow this was a very good quad. Not over the top like some tend to drift towards, but this was solid through and through.

Dark brown, low carbonation very "bready", a sweet maltiness reminescent of a belhaven wee heavy. Also notes of banana , caramel and plum. Alcohol is amazingly well hidden. a very nice brew if you are inthe mood for a slightly sweet beer.

12oz Bottle – Trade – Douglas88
Aroma: Nice Belgian yeast aroma. Fruity with a light spice.
Appearance: Light Amber in color, hazy with a thin head.
Flavor: Belgian flavoring with the yeast and dried fruit. Very full flavored.
Palate: Dry Belgian finish, with a great Mouthfeel.
Overall: Very smooth and tasty Belgian beer . This was full of life and will try again when I have this opportunity. Thanks Doug.
