Doppelbock, dunkel aroma, roast chocolate, caramelization. Acidic carbonation evident at first sip. Yeast character is present but subdued compared to other Belgian ales. Flavor is deep and complex with some raisin, alcohol, dark crystal, some straw or earth notes. Balanced. Excellent when served at cellar temps, becomes smoother. Very warming. Very excellent brew. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2007 On tap. Dark brown appearance with a sweet aroma with a hint of dark fruit. Although this beer is sweet there is some how a balance and it works for me. One of my favorite Belgium beers. Its dark, strong spicy and the yeast all together make for an outstanding balanced beer. jbean (110), Illinois, USA

One of my favorite belgian ales. ARMed (486), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 21, 2007 Tased this brew at my favorite beer joint in Media, PA called Quotations. This one was just tapped and the beer was slightly warm so I was not able to enjoy it as I would have liked. Tasted chocolately with rich malty overtnes. naivepegasus (189), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2007 Pours a dark ruby-brown with a few fingers of white-tan head. Sweet odor of raisins and caramel malts. Thick, almost syrupy taste to it, really deep and sweet. Fruity and malty, and surprisingly good. I paid too much for this at a bad liquor store out of curiosity, but tasting it I do not feel nearly as ripped off now. VacaBeerDude (19), Vacaville, California, USA

This had a nice, dark color to it with a almost sweet caramel-like aroma. Went down with a bit of a bite, but it was an overall good drinking experience. Great with an amaretto cake. mcbackus (753), Merritt Island, Florida, USA
