Commercial Description:
(translated by a Scotsman)
Gulpener Sjoes is a colour rich blend from two classic beer styles. It lends a remarkable taste from a harmony from the craft brewed Gulpener Pilsener and the older known Gulpener Oud Bruin. From this remarkable combination comes a unique beer that has been loved for decades in Limburg pubs.

Bottle, pours amber color with a thin white head. Aromas are light malt and light hop notes. Taste is light with some carmel and hop bitterness. Dry hoppy finish.

Bottle. Golden brown with a small head. Aromas are sweet malts with herbal and spicy notes. Quite fruity. Flavours are sweet malts and berries with weetabix and chocolate malts. Dry but thin on the finish.

is not bad, but aroma and taste is very poor, the appearance is good, I like the yellow color and the withe foam, but at the taste is just average, not too much to say...

Nice copper body under a small white-beige head. After a while the nose gets some coffee and malt. The flavour contains some sourish taste with a little watery and sweet texture, a bit of roasted malt. Not the big boom of the beers:)

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a nice amberish brown with a small white head like a true Belgian but has a skunky, cardboardish pilsener-like aroma. The flavor is pretty good compared to the aroma, mainly candy sugar but it tastes good. I strongly dislike the Oud Bruin-style, but this one is enjoyable

Bottle, bought @ YNWA, Kolding.
[vintage 2006]
Pours a clear deep amber with quite a large frothy white head. Aroma is mild, rather pilsner-ish, with sweet pale malt, and a little bit of ’wet dog’ hops. Surprisingly oily mouthfeel. Flavour is much more sour than the aroma. But not much. As Maria puts it, the Oud Bruin almost drowns in the pilsner. Easily drinkable, but nothing special.

Dark golden with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel and pilsner plus a very light sourness. The flavour has the same notes, but the Oud Bruin drowns in the pilsner. The result is smooth, easy-going and slightly boring, but it’s very easy to drink. 2442
