Commercial Description:
(translated by a Scotsman)
Gulpener Sjoes is a colour rich blend from two classic beer styles. It lends a remarkable taste from a harmony from the craft brewed Gulpener Pilsener and the older known Gulpener Oud Bruin. From this remarkable combination comes a unique beer that has been loved for decades in Limburg pubs.

Amber colored pour with little to no head. A roasted malty aroma with a nice malty finish.

A soft smooth and sweet beer, which surprised me a bit. Funny mix, but not that bad, better try it again another time. Maybe Els will bring it to me.

Can’t believe this rates so poorly.
From the bottle into a tulip. Bright, tawny amber, sparsely carbonated and donned by a flabby, creamy off-white lather that left some firm lacing. Aroma of moss rocks, wet grass, topsoil and woody malts. Interesting!! Dry, bready, big toasted and roasted malt palate. Quite peaty, woody, showing a richness of flavour that defies its rather light body. Carbonation is soft, prickly making it quite refreshing. Soft hints of nuts come in as it warms, as does some salt and rust, which actually add depth to its wooded malt palate. This is easy drinking material with a malty twist. Reminiscent of what Scotland’s Belhaven’s ales used to taste like. Quite nice!!! (30cL, BBE 05/06, International Beer Shop, W. Leederville)

Dark amber color, thin head,..bad one with bad ingredients,..unnatural sweetness (beers don’t need sweet ingr. and really no acid sweed) very poor that a brewer needs help of that.

Amber brown, clear, modest white head. Sourish aroma, some malt. A definite nutty note with caramel malt, slightly bitter finish. Interesting.

Amber body with a good lasting off-white head. Thin body, a little bit like a thin cloying honey, caramel and some hoppy bitterness. Quite different, drinkable but not spectacular.

24 May 2005 - Light fruit and hop aroma, but too simplistic. Clear orange-amber-brown colourand good head. Smmoke smokey malt flavour. Bitter finish and a bit watery.
