Commercial Description:
A black, top-fermented beer with a firm brown head and a pleasant bitterness from roasted barley and chocolate malt, and from centennial, fuggles, East Kent golding and cascade hops. The bitterness is around 60 IBU. The malt bill is pale malt, cara munich, cara crystal, chocolate and a little roasted barley. The malt leaves a residual sweetness that matches the bitterness. To complete the flavour profile, the beer is aged on roasted oak chips.

It’s black with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, dark fruit and licorice. The flavor has a light sweetness and notes of roasted malt, licorice, dark fruits, anise, vanilla/oak, burnt sugar and it’s pleasant and hides the alcohol well.

Unclear dark dark brown color with a average, frothy to creamy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dusty, moderate coffee, light chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, and a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20091003]

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of ChristianScheffel. Pours a murky and opaque dark brown with a small beige head. Lovely aroma of hard roasted malts, vanilla and oak. Solid body, hard roasted malts - but never burned - vanilla and dried fruit again with a subtle oaky touch. A little licorice also. Warming alcoholic finish. Everything here is subtle and balanced, nothing is overdone. Very nice indeed. 031009

Bottle, bought @ Vinens Verden, Odense.
Pours very deep brown, almost black. Medium creamy beige head that fizzes away to a 1cm thick, staying head. Aroma is sweet, roasted caramel, some chocolate, bourbon-like vanilla. Lots of oak. Medium carbonation, nice creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has lots of tart oak at first, then well-roasted, sweet malts. Chocolate abounds among sweetish vanilla. LIngering bitter, sweet, fat, coffee-like bitterness. Generally quite sweet (the oak adds to this). Very light viniousness. Nice.
