yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Sep 28, 2009 Bottle, at Cardinal. A clear, golden cider with some off-white bubbles on top. Apples, hints of apple cores, a hint of sulphur and some funk in the aroma. The flavor has some alcohol notes and a little sulphur, or maybe more like a freshly lit matchstik, with apples doing most of the work. Astringent and dry in the mouth. Dry, apple finish. A quite decent cider, nothing more. 090928 Geokkjer (256), Kristiansand, Norway Sep 22, 2009 Bottle @ Cardinal pub.Pours golden yellow with no head.Still cider.Aroma of spicy, funky brettish farmhouse and apples of course.Kinda dry with the same funky farmhouse apple taste.Medium body with some residual sweetness.Very nice and refreshing. Beer2000 (1775), Kristiansand, Norway Aug 8, 2009 500 ml bottle. Clear golden with a diminishing film of white head. Aroma of sour apple and brett (horse blanket/barnyard). Fine, clean flavor of dry apple with a oak edge. Brett’ish aftertaste. Very nice. JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA May 7, 2009 On cask. Pour is gold slight orange tinge, no head. Aroma is not very interesting. The flavor is nice though, sweet juicy apples, some funky barnyard flavor, slight sourness. Slightly puckery, but still very sweet. Quite refreshing and easy to drink. Comments: One of Gwatkin’s smaller efforts I find. Yeasty, but more phenolic than funky and other wise simple cider.
hughie (3016), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Aug 7, 2007 The Golden Valley is a remote and charming corner of Herefordshire that I used to make a point of driving through whenever I was in the Marches. Dark golden cider. Rather evocative ashy, smoky bonfire aroma. Taste less impressive: sweet and rather astringent. Overall not bad, but not as delectable as the valley. Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Jul 10, 2007 500 ml clear bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 6%. The label advices me to "pour slowly to avoid disturbing the natural sediment". A rather unnecessary warning, as there is no sign whatsoever of any sediment in the bottle. The cider is clear and has a deep golden to amber colour, and pours very fizzy with a short-lived head. Quite nice aroma of English cider apples, apple vinegar, oak and some spice. The apple flavour is medium sweet with notes of wood and sulphur and a slightly tart finish.
