Commercial Description:
Traditional dry farmhouse cider. The Kingston Black apple is the most famous apple in the cider making world. Dating back centuries, the variety originated in Somerset, but by the 1800s it had spread all over England & Wales. A favourite with the old farming communities and their traditional way of cider making; often kept for the vintage house cider and drunk on special occasions. There have been various new strains of this variety grown but none to match the taste of the old. Matured in oak barrels with natural yeasts.

500 ml bottle. Deep golden colour. Crystal clear. Rich appley aroma. Oakey character. Definitely aged in oak casks. Rounded apple flavours. Surprisingly dry. Almost puckering apple flavours. Hints of smoke. Ends a bit abruptly and unfortunately a bit watery. Inspecting the bottle reveals a high alcohol content, which cannot be detected.

500 ml clear bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 7.5%. No sediment in the bottle. The cider is clear amber coloured. Pours rather fizzy with a very short-lived head. Very nice aroma of cider apples and oak, hints of leather and spices. Very dry flavour which leads to a surprisingly "watery" mouthfeel, despite a respectable ABV of 7.5%. There is a moderate acidity in the first sip, and a moderately astringent finish. Easy drinking.

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear, deep, amber golden with no head. Dry, leathery aroma. Medium body, lightly tart apple accents and then again these astringent, leathery notes that seem to be standard in Gwatkin ciders and I have a hard time coming to terms with. 120507
