HomeBrewHawk (144), De Soto, Kansas, USA Sep 21, 2008 500ml bottle, Batch 90. Bottle conditioned. Served in a snifter. Poured a deep, opaque black/brown with a finger of tan head that quickly dissipates. Fruity aroma with some roasted malt and a little alcohol. Very full bodied with an almost syrupy mouthfeel. Plenty of roasted/chocolate malt flavor. Very little hop bitterness. There is bitterness from the roasted malt. Long dry finish of chocolate malt. Warming. Definitely a sipper. At the price, I don’t think it will be a regular. Interesting beer, that RIS fans should try.
TheBeerOrg (1401), Kentucky, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours pitch black with a big foamy light brown head. Aroma of sweet roast, dark chocolate, licorice. Tastes of Mouthfeel is heavy bodied with smooth carbonation and just a bit of noticable alcohol. It certainly makes it presence felt though! LilBeerDoctor (711), East Setauket, USA Nov 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a super thick dark tan head like a milkshake that dissipates rapidly. Aroma of bitter chocolate, sweet roasted malt, and alcohol. Flavor of light roasted malt, apple skins, and an odd sweet vegetal quality. Thin mouthfeel. Something was off with this beer and it just wasn’t very tasty.
daknole (1008), Plantation, Florida, USA Nov 15, 2008 almost a black pour. nice brown head. aroma is very roasty. I get hints of fruit, chocolate and some syrup or honey notes. flavor is somewhat bitter, some coffee, very roasted flavors. I liked this beer. Rciesla (1106), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Oct 28, 2008 Bottle shared with BrianK. Pours a dark black body with a brown head. Sweet roasted chocolate, and maple with a light woodiness. Light wheat with some licorice to seal the deal. Good brew. islay (409), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Oct 27, 2008 500 mL bottle. Consumed somewhere between 10-11-08 and 10-13-08 (I forgot to write down the date). Opaque dark chocolate or coffee appearance. Large amount of dark tan to light sable head. Sweet, sharp, green apple aroma. Yeasty and vegetal smell. Cookie dough as well as lemon zest, zuchini, and rhubarb scents. Pleasant and unique aroma. Roasted coffee dominates the flavor. Not bad for what it is, but I’m not a coffee guy. Simplistic taste, especially compared to the complex aroma. Excessively bitter, dry aftertaste. Medium to slightly full body. Oily and silky in the palate. Dark Force is an interesting beer, but by no means an outstandingly good one.
