Although the aroma is horrible, the flavor is quite good, nice and tart but not overly acidic as the aroma might indicate. Overall a decent beer flavor wise, but the aroma kills it for me. Pours a reddish brown color with a dissipating white head. Aroma is strong, with some fruits like cherries, bananas, apples, and a hint of bourbon. Taste is of wood, dark cherries, lemons, and green apples. mouthfeel is sour with a slight warming effect that finishes dry. This sour ale is highly recommended. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with an average, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt -cookie, straw-, average hops -flowers, grass-, heavy yeast -horse blanket, barnyard- with notes of cherry, wood, medicine, and an Orval-esque funk. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a sour finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and sourness. Rciesla (3750), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

aroma of strong vinegar and tart cherries as well as some wood. somewhat of a chemical/plactic tinge to it which softens up as it warms to room temperature...
flavors consisted of a good combination of earth, cherries, caramel, wood, and vinegar. perhaps a little booze on the finish. could use a little more tartness but this was generally pretty nice.

Murky, dark brown ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Everlasting creamy retention. Fruity, funky, earthy aroma is a blend of oak, black cherries and must. Medium to full-bodied and ultra creamy with spritzy carbonation. Woodsy, very tart, black cherry flavor with less significant notes of vanilla and dark fruits. Very nice acidity... bouncy, but not bossy. Finishes tangy and dry. World class brew! Miver (569), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 21, 2008 Bottle from Tertons. Batch 49. Brewed 10-10-2006. Bottle came partially open when received by FedEx, but I couldn’t let it go to waste and actually it had great carbonation. The FedEx driver must have dropped it in my driveway. Pours hazy muddy brownish red in color with a few light bubbles. Aroma of cherry, oak, brett funk, light vinegar. Tastes almost of la folie with the similar, acetic notes and vinegar. Flavors of brett, funky barnyard notes, tart cherries. Very nice and quite enjoyable Flemish ale. BlackForestCO (828), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Shared by a local. Poured a murky reddish-brown with a thin beige head that diminished to a ring. Aroma of tart cherries, light barnyard funk, sour yeast, and some oak. Smooth, tart entry leads into some sour cherry with a funky, sour middle transitioning with some earthy yeastiness and a bit of drying oak. Moderate carbonation, dry and biting on the palate. Pretty good for a first try.
