Bottle from my Secret Santa - thanks, Santa! As others have noted, this is certainly a slightly odd rendition of an English IPA. When I first poured it - lovely, by the way, with a cloudy amber body and a big creamy head - I noticed a somewhat sour aroma, and wondered if they’d mislabeled Haandbak. Well, not that sour. But while it’s plenty hopped and has some evident malts, there’s something about the tart element here that makes this one kinda like Struiselensis or something like that. Wasn’t what I was expecting, but I kinda dug it.

Bottle, thanks to akevitt for sharing. Batch #155. Odd aroma on this one - reminds me of belgian malts along with some spice notes and faint hops, along with a sour beer scent. Flavor is mainly malts with hardly any hop flavors along with a weird mint tone. Finish is metallic and bitter. Smooth medium-bodied mouthfeel with a nice, light carbonation. It’s possible this one sat around too long.

Pours clear copper with a solid offwhite head, decent lacing. Aroma is floral and grapefruit hops, bread and caramel malts. Flavour is a bit too malty for an IPA, but I enjoyed it. Full bodied and lively carbonated, refreshing.

batch 155. nose of yeast funk and hops. appearance is cloudy rust. flavor is of sour yeast funk. hardly an IPA, but still enjoyable as a sour ale, saison like. possibly they brewed this with wild yeast and it has matured in the year since its was brewed (label says brewed april 08)? at any rate, clearly more then a few of us have experienced these characteristics, yet in different places and different times. which leads me to believe that it was intentionally done by the brewer and not a case of infection. what a strange brew!

Crushed with Jakebra. Jakebra says it’s a near drain pour. Bottle is definitely old. Very musty, cloying flavor with hardly any hop nose to speak of. Compare this to Redhook IPA, it’s pretty good. Compare to a generic IPA, it kinda sucks.
