Commercial Description:
This beer is our premium X-Mas beer. This beer is full of all the dark malts that we have at hand and display a full and complex malt taste, almost reaching in to the porter style. It has a balanced fruitiness from hops with a good mouth feel and smoothness, and a lingering aftertaste of roasted malts.

50cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. Batch 181. It poured a pitch black colour with a big beige creamy head that settled down slowly in the glass. The aroma smells of chocolate, roasted malts, licorice, spices and alcohol. The flavor is spicy and tastes of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malts. It has a medium long aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours ruddy brown/black with a wisp of a tan head that leaves some short lived lacing on the side of the glass. Nose of chocolate and brown sugar, figs, candied fruit, orange and some hints of spice. More chocolately goodness in the flavor, spiced fruit, sweet and a little bready. a touch acidic, orange rind and some nice earthy hop bitterness to round it out. Low carbed and drying, very quaffable. Excellent christmas porter with a very restrained spice profile.

Murky dark brown color with a small lid of light tan bubbles. Lightly roasted malts, dark chocolate syrup, and licorice scents. Hints of alcohol in the background. Strong flavors, with licorice, anise, chocolate extract, burnt raisins and sweet grains. A bit syrupy in feel. Finish is quite quick and uneventful. Linger has some roasted malts and dark caramelized fruits. Things don’t seem to come together in this one. Seems like something I would pour over bread pudding.

Have loved every beer I’ve had from this brewery...until now. Very average and uninspired. Norwegian Wood, Norse Porter, and Dark Force were all impressive. Cloudy dark chocolate color with a spongy latte head. Roasted malt, Nestle Quik, toffee and spice. Perhaps I’m being overly critical but was surprised by and enjoyed their others so much more.

Pours dark with a tall lasting head. Strong chocolaty aromas fill the room. Full nectar with soft and creamy effers. Huge chunky chocolate Hershey flavors ebvelope my attention as the roasted coffee bean essence snaps its fingers brining me back. The finish goes on and on. A decadent brew indeed.

Bottled October 2007, best by October 2010, consumed November 2008. Pours a dark and dense mahogany brown color with a slowly fading, spongy, khaki colored head. Thin, crackly, spider-web lacing marks the glass well. The aroma shows like a spiced holiday porter. Rich cocoa and burnt caramel malts show in the base, followed by Fig Newton cookies, roasty espresso, cinnamon, and vanilla. Earthy spices and hops are prominent throughout. The flavor is chocolaty, dark cocoa on full display, with a strong presence of scorched caramel and coffee. The fig notes seem to drop out a bit, replaced by roasted chestnut and even more bitter, woody, earthy spice. Medium-full and smooth on the palate, there is a spicy dryness that lingers on the tongue. I was pleasantly surprised by this brew. It’s more porter than anything, but there’s plenty of gritty earth and spice to go around. Nice brew.
