Strong Christmas in nose with cinnamon, yeast and obvious licorice, interesting one. Medium bodied. Flavor is more roasted with drying palate, still some cinnamon here, though not as much in aroma. Licorice comes also up in flavor, crispy carbonation. Stouty creamy-roastiness lasts in aftertaste. Complex, still not very well balanced brew. TBone (6788), Pori, Finland

Very dark ruby color, medium-sized steady beige head. Nose is spicey (cinnamon, clove), has some dark malts, chocolate and dominating aroma of resin. In the flavor first impression is that this is using same yeast than Nøgne Ø, yeast is also very distinct here. There is some licorice, some spices (not very much, less than aroma indicates), dark malts and metallic touch. Finish is kind of empty. Light alcohol and yeast in the aftertaste. Ok XMas beer, but I’ll prefer Dark Force... sayravai (3733), Helsinki, Finland

Xmas-spicy aroma with roasted malt, and some resiny menthol. Roasted-malty, slightly gingerbready and christmas-spicy - although not very interesting - flavor. Reminds me a bit of Diamond Beer’s Kerst Bok. Yeast brings in some ashiness, but doesn’t affect the flavor much. Medium-bodied, soft-carbonated palate. The first bottle sampled was very different with extremely intense, burned color malt feel all over. The second sample was somewhat warmer, but I don’t think that alone would make such a difference. I hope the latter was closer to the average...
(Bottled) Deep, dark, ruby red with a large, beige head. Xmas-spicy aroma with roasty-burned malt and some wheaty oatmeal feel. Very burned-color-malty, ashy flavor with some toffee underneath. Pouring in the yeast brings in some licoricey, even Belgian feel, with some wheaty notes - but still it’s pretty much masked by the color malt. Medium-bodied, quite low-carbonated palate. I don’t know what they’ve been {thdr}inking while making the recipe, but this kind of a color malt overdose should be criminalized... PLundsgaard (210), Tranbjerg J, Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 21, 2007 Bottle, 6%. Batch#46. Slow gusher, not chilled, but at cellar temperature. Nicely fruity aroma, some dried fruit and some yeast. Dark and muddy red/brown colour. Frothy light brown head, semi-stable. The flavour is quite roasted, turns nicely sweet and then roasted again. A little yeast to the flavour, but fortunately not as much as the aroma. High carbonation, a bit too much.
