Commercial Description:
Once, every farm in Norway was required by law to brew its own ale. All of that ale had a natural smoky taste because the malt was kilned by fire, and most of it was spiced with juniper berries. Norwegian Wood, a recreation of that traditional style, is made by the "Hand Brewery" - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale.

Bottle Pours out a amber topped with a tan head. Aroma of smoke and sweetness. Tast more of the smoke and plenty of wood. A nice brew.

Deep amber color with an uncontrollable beige head that threatened to overspill every time I poured more beer into the glass. Nose of caramel corn and used firewood. Very meaty beer, with smoked bacon and pit ham. Lots of malty sweetness, with oak, burnt coffee, and juniper in the finish. If you like smoked beers, you will like this.

This beer smells just like my shirt after I have been standing over my grill for an hour or two. This beer also tastes like meat after it has been on my grill for an hour or two. Hints of berry floating around, with notes of spice and wood. Maybe the slightest hint of vanilla and other fruit. Mmmm...smoke and meat....droooooooool.

In the 0.5mL bottle from Beertopia. Oh, this is good stuff. It’s a 60 degree fall afternoon in Nebraska and this beer really fits the bill. Pours a hazy brown with a yellow-ochre colored head. Lines of thin carbonation bubbles more in regiment up the glass. The aroma smells like Old Sledge’s smokehouse while he was curing ham. The flavor is not like a bamburger ham sandwich, but it is no shrinking violet either. This is solidly smoky. The only negative is that the body is just slightly o th thin side for this much flavor. The finish has a slightly tart taste, but I’m not sure that I can discern any juniper berries here. The only flavor other than th roasted smoke is a nice bitter chocolate.

Pours an attractive burnt caramel with a touch of scarlet when held to the light. The nose is smooth and smokey, as is the flavor. I’m surprised to see that this isn’t a smoked. A nice beer, but not worth the price.

Poured a hazy brown color with forathy tan head. Aroma is brown sugared beef jerky. Flavor sweet caramel chocolate beginning that transforms into a smokey jerked meat flavor with a bitter finish. Overall, very good.

Poured from a 500ml bottle (Batch 86, Brewed: Aug. ’07) and served in an English pint glass. This beer poured a hazy copper brown with a lasting head of tight, tan foam. Some nice lacing was left behind. The aroma of the beer was made up of burnt wood, smoke, toasted caramel, spicy and fragrent juniper, and also some earthy yeast. The flavor included smoked meats, campfire, dark fruits, burnt caramel, and a solid dose of lasting juniper at the finish. Definately interesting. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with mild carbonation. Despite the strong smoke presence, the juniper really shines through. Tasty and unique, but not something I would drink all the time.
