Commercial Description:
Once, every farm in Norway was required by law to brew its own ale. All of that ale had a natural smoky taste because the malt was kilned by fire, and most of it was spiced with juniper berries. Norwegian Wood, a recreation of that traditional style, is made by the "Hand Brewery" - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale.

500ml bottle from monopoly outlet, Oslo. Pours hazy brown with small offwhite head. Faint aromas of woodfire and us hops. Wonderful smoky taste, not too much like those german ones, and a bit fruity. Fantastic...

500ml bottle at The Rake, with renffisch, duff and harrisoni, 17th May 2008. Bottle was from batch 66, brewed Feb 2007. Dark reddish amber with a solid whitish head. Very unique and wonderful aroma - pine, juniper, wood smoke, herbs. Utterly lovely smoky malt flavours, balanced by a dry, lingering hoppiness. Not too heavy either. A very different, very, very enjoyable beer.

Thanks for sharing Sick_boy. Pours with a slightly cloudy, deep amber body topped by a thick, quickly disappearing head with lots of lacing. It’s smoky and malty with a slight sweetness and a little hop character. Medium bodied and very tingly from the carbonation.

50cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. Batch 142. It poured a dark brown colour with a light brown head that disappears fast in the glass. The aroma smells of malts, smoke, dark chocolate and I also think there is a hint of juniper. The flavour is a bit bitter and tastes of smoked malts, dark chocolate. The aftertaste is suprisingly short.

Brewed 4/7, Tasted 7/8 Batch72. Huge tan head on a brown body. The head demands patience. Smoke, and dark fruit. Creamy when drunk with head. Bitter chocolate. Juniper adds a nice hop character to keep smoke from overplay. Nice and well rounded for so many strong characters.

Bottle from Uto beer, Borough Market, Lahndan Tahn 21-06-08 Mid brown unclear pour with off white possibly tan head. Quite a bit of carbonation to this beer and for a while I’m reminded of a guiness pour as the head settles. Smokey wafts come forth and the taste is lightly smokey with a nice bitterness and then some sweetness joining in. Its a fine beer but not quite as good as I expected.
