The aroma is of beech wood, and Kunzler smokehouse meats. Nice lasting head, Taste is smoky and dry with a foamy mouthfeel. This one was very different for me, I don’t think i’ve had any quite like this before. Very unique !!! afireinside96 (839), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours very dark brown with a fluffy tan head that sticks around throughout the entire glass. Smells of campfire and sweetenend malts. Lots of smoke in the flavor backed up by some nice roasted bitterness. Very drinkable and quite enjoyable, I’m glad I picked this one up. HenrikSoegaard (4364), Randers, Denmark

Color was brown , a bit murky. Quite a bit of white head.
Aroma was smoky , more of a fireplace smoke and not a beechwood or alderwood smoke.
Taste was smoky but not overpowering. A slight hop contribution but not much. I couldn’t detect the juniper berries.
Mouthfeel was fair. Not as silky as I had hoped.
Drinkability: it was a unique smoke beer and I’m glad I tried it but I wouldn’t seek it out again. PorterPounder (3144), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 24, 2008 Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 500 ml bottle.Dark copper colored pour with a long lasting spritzy khaki colored head. Aroma of smoked meat and sardines. Flavor has the same smokiness, but not overdone or cloying. Pick up a bit of the juniper berries mentioned in the description with some faint molasses in the back end. Very drinkable "smoked" beer - even though it is classified as a Traditional ale. Decently thick mouthfeel - slightly chewy. Overall, enjoyable. presario (2987), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 23, 2008 Bottle purchased at Bottleworks Seattle and consumed in Montana. Dirty brown beer with big lasting sand coloured head. Musty light smoke aroma. Flavour starts smoke, then berries and then a big smoke return and finish. The berries fight with the smoke throughout each sip but always succumb to the strong smoke flavour. More drinkable with each sip. A smoke cream ale. Taverner (861), San Ramon, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 19, 2008 Solid smokey brown ale. Full of tannins, smoke, beef notes - the juniper is very present as well. Pours a very frothy brown with fluffy tan head that recedes quickly. I like this. hapjydeuce (772), Del Mar, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2008 Bottled, shared at Sean and Ryans tasting. This beer smells like a barbecue smokehouse. Clear dark brown color with minimal head. Ultra-smoky aroma loaded with ashy wood, sweet caramel and an astringent gin character from the juniper berries. Smoke is less prominent in the flavor and the juniper continues to stand out. Flavor finishes with more ash and some bitter tannins. Thin body with an average palate.
