Fairly harsh smoked, chocolate, abrupt metallic finish, perfumed juniper. Dry, but relatively thin body. Not harmonic but interresting. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Chocolate brown pour with a massive off-white head. Aroma has strong notes of smoky, firewood. I didn’t get any juniper berries or fruit in the aroma at all. I enjoyed this one on my palate - strong malty body and the same smoky flavors as in the aroma. Interesting brew - I feel like rauch-style biers are underappreciated and this is one of the better ones I’ve had. Only negative is mildly astringent flavors on the back of the palate. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 12, 2007 Dark brown-red colored, cloudy appearance with little yellow head. Rich smoky-ham-bacony aroma, some lemony sweetness there too. Medium bodied. Flavor is more fruity and grainy, not so dominated by smoke, still it comes up. Aftertaste turns to more smoked with some yeast and strongly dry vegetables. Interesting traditional ale. jbrus (4895), Delft, Netherlands
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2007 Bottle@Home. Strong smoked wood aroma with some smoked eal in the background and raisins. Brown color, beige firm head, good lace. Starts easy, raisins and sparkling, even a bit sweet. The strong wood comes in with broken twigs and smoke. But it finishes again different, harsh bitter dry charcoal. A big explosion of flavors that makes it hard to finish the whole bottle on your own. Glad I shared it with Savad who called this beer like walking in the woods after a small forrestfire that was killed after a summer rainstorm. ogivlado (3095), Zagreb, Croatia

Murky amber coloured, big pale beige head, mild smoked and juniper nose. Very aromatic, quite yeasty (also big yeast sediment) and mild hoppy with notes of smoke and juniper. Not so good as Dark Force is but also excellent brew. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2007 50cl bottle. Clear amber with a big, bubbly tan head. Tons of tiny bubbles (no disrespect to Don Ho). Very light smoke nose, mild juniper, um, yeasty? Nice smoke and malt balance, mildly sweet, meaty. Pretty drinkable. Woody finish, slightly dry. Good. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 5, 2007 Bottle: Cloudy, muddy copper color with a small beige head. Aroma is reminiscent of a campfire with hints of spices. Flavor is lightly malty and spicey with the smoke playing a central role, but not overwhelming. Thanks Jordan.
