Commercial Description:
Once, every farm in Norway was required by law to brew its own ale. All of that ale had a natural smoky taste because the malt was kilned by fire, and most of it was spiced with juniper berries. Norwegian Wood, a recreation of that traditional style, is made by the "Hand Brewery" - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale.

Bottle 0,5 l. Pours like a dunkel weizen, hazy light brown with a fizzy head. Nose has smoked malts, sour spiciness and citrus with a bit of maltiness and something I can’t really put my finger on. Juniper might be there. Flavor is surprisingly fresh with a nice smoky twist on a sour body. Sourness is quite subtle, but the whole remains fresh and easily drinkable. Good, not as extreme as it might be.

Bottle 500ml. Myddy brown colour, foamy big bobbled beige head. Aroma has smoked ham, chocolate, spices. Taste is also smoky, some citrus and coffee. Nice smooth finish.

Dark, copperbrown beer with huge beige head. Lot of coffee and roasted malts, sour, some liquirice and interesting aroma. Flavour is quite similar than aroma, coffee, roasted malts with chalk turns flavour in to quite dry. In the end there are more malts and some spicy (maybe it is juniper). When the beer disappears from the glass that quite strange flavour starts to fascinate more and more. Nicely slippery to drink with balance carbonation even it was not looks like that after beer was poured in to glass. Lighter version of brewery’s Dark Force to coffee and rosted malts lovers, I like this beer.

Bottled (batch #220, brewed 20.04.09). Hazy deep red color, big cloudy beige head. Strong nose with smoke, wood and licorice. First impression is hard mouthfeel and crisp carbonation. Taste is smokey (toasted bacon), with wet spruce and notes of juniper. Suprisingly thin finish with some hops. A bit out of balance smoked beer.

This poured a brown color with a beige head. The aroma contains some herbal notes along with nutmeg, alcohol, raisins, and cherries. The flavor is rather sweet with a smokey presence. Do I taste BACON! Also some dark fruit and caramel showing. Overall this was an excellent beer.
