Commercial Description:
Odins Tipple was meant to be a strong beer, but we changed our minds...its still strong but we wont follow the mega strong trend. It should be possible to make great beer without the extreme alcohol potency. Odins Tipple is now approx 11% abv, it’s a dark almost black beer from lots and lots of chocolate malt. Its the malt that contributes the flavor...no added coffee or anything else, Its got a great body without being old engine oil and still very drinkable due to the wild yeast we use. This beer is made with a single strain of wild yeast and the recipe is dead simple.

This opaque brown ale poured with a light brown head. There is an aromatic chocolate, coffee and alcohol nose. The intense flavor includes bitter chocolate, treacle, prune and coffee, with a strong alcohol finish.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours dark black with a small dark tan head. Very nice aroma of smooth toasted malt and some dark fruit. Full bodied with frothy carbonation. Lots of flavor. Fruit and dark malt, but coffee seems to come forth in the end. Maybe a touch of prune. Finiishes heavy and malty.

30/10 0.5 l bottle courtesy of Doggythedog, huge thanks for sharing! It poured oil black body with small brown head. Dark chocolate, caramel and oily aroma, pretty nice without being complex. Flavor is good as well, pretty lot of flavors could be discerned, such as caramel, wood, some licorice, dark chocolate and coffee. Greatly balanced, slightly sweet to sourish. Full body, oily on palate. Long and slightly warming finish, regardless alcohol was very well hidden previously. Nice IS, it’s been months since my last beer in 4-level.

(Bottle, Bar & Cigar, Oslo, 5 Nov 2009) Opaque black colour with almost no head. It pours slow and thick as oil. Malty, vinous, roasted nose with notes of liquorice, espresso, oak wood, vanilla, tobacco, fortified wine and sourish hints from the wild yeast. Malty, roasted taste with tar, wood, vanilla, smoke, espresso, liquorice and cocoa. Full body, thick and oily mouthfeel. Rather vinous finish with tar, smoke and a touch of sourness. Well, this is an extreme beer: thick and oily, vinous wih lots of warming alcohol. But in some weird way, it’s still in remarkable balance. Lovely beer!

Bottled 500ml. -Courtesy of Doggythedog, shared with him and heavy (thanks!). Batch No. 207
Deep black coloured, small brown head, coffee chicory nose. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, bitter coffee and dried fruits with notes of vanilla. Mild traces of alcohol in the finish. Complex, well balanced and very good imperial stout.

Bottle. Pours opaque with an average, creamy dark brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, caramel, chocolate), average hop (flowers, perfume), average yeast (dough, leather) with notes of raisin, plum, prune, date, cherry, port, wood, and vanilla. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness and acidity, heavy bitterness. Port aroma; bacon, smoke, ash, wood, and dark fruit flavor.

Pours a thick, headless black stream in a sluggish way, indicating a thick, oil-like palate. The first sip tells me I’m right. Smell is very complex: roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and something else that I can’t quite put my finger on... Vinegar? That is, at least, one of the prominent aromas which makes me question the definition here - I really have a hard time calling this an Imperial Stout. My tongue tells me this is rather a 50-50% stout and sour ale, as it lacks much of the clear-cut roastiness of the IS but has a much more ale-like mouthfeel, almost lacking carbonation. Nevertheless an interesting brew, albeit not among my absolute favorites.

Pint bottle by way of TheCheeseMan. Pours crude oil black with a thin brown head. The nose is dark chocolate, roast and dark fruits. The taste is black licorice, berries, ash, cocoa and baker’s chocolate with a sourish milk finish. Medium fairly flat mouthfeel. Interesting stout. Hides the ABV well. Thanks for sending this one my way Daniel!
