Commercial Description:
Odins Tipple was meant to be a strong beer, but we changed our minds...its still strong but we wont follow the mega strong trend. It should be possible to make great beer without the extreme alcohol potency. Odins Tipple is now approx 11% abv, it’s a dark almost black beer from lots and lots of chocolate malt. Its the malt that contributes the flavor...no added coffee or anything else, Its got a great body without being old engine oil and still very drinkable due to the wild yeast we use. This beer is made with a single strain of wild yeast and the recipe is dead simple.

Bottle. Appearance: Pours silky black with a thin, frothy brown head. Moderate lacing, but there is a trace of color left on the glass too. Aroma: Smells of chocolate, licorice, and sweet roasted malts. Flavor: A nice balance of sweet and tart. Chocolate, dark malts and some smoky notes. The alcohol is present and lingers slightly. Palate: Full bodied with a thick, syrupy mouthfeel. Overall: I loved this beer. Couldn’t put it down.

Bottle@Home. Strong aroma of chocolate and black currant with a hint of coffee. Opaque colour, dark brown small head, fair lace. Very sweet, loads of chocolate, coffee, black berries/currant. Full and burning in the back of your throat. Very flavourful! And I was expecting a Triple?!

Bottle at home. Pitch black coloured with a small beige head. Roasted aroma of tar and alcohol with notes of smoke, chocolate and liquorice. Roasted and light acidic flavour of dark chocolate, tar, berries and alcohol. Tart, roasted and warming alcoholic finish. Funny experiment.

Brewed in Norway...... Pours black like year old engine oil with a slick beige head. Aroma of chocolate splendor, dark malts, molasses and booze. The taste has a strong presence of alcohol mixed with chocolate, malts, burnt wood and molasses. The mouthfeel is intense, thick, chalky and finishes with some extreme dryness. I picked the wrong night to break this bad boy out, very hot and sticky.

Black color, small dark brown head. Sweet, acidic, alcohol scent, a bit salty and some rubber. Salty, sour, acidic, vinegar, berry taste. Acidic aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Also some wood and a touch of smoke aftertaste. Too acidic / sour for my taste, didn’t realize they use wild yeast until reading about it on ratebeer after rating the beer.. The high alcohol is well hidden though.

Pours opaque black with a small to medium, mocha-colored, frothy head which is mostly diminishing and minimal, tight lace. Nose is nice but the alcohol is more quite prominent and gets in the way of the malt richness; notes of fudge, light espresso, burnt caramels, roasted pecans, and light molasses. I know this could be much better with some aging. Flavor is amazing, very bold and warm but still quite drinkable; fudge just fills the mouth, molasses is prominent, dark and burnt caramels, pecans float around the tongue, espresso is light but brings some earthy bitterness, anise creeps into the picture and stays, baking spices of cinnamon and nutmeg, lightly charred oak, and hints of spruce. Palate is lively, full, thick, and warming. Finishes sweet and fairly long with fudge still dominating, lighter espresso and moderate bitterness, dark caramels, and molasses lingering. A very intense malt experience with a very rich flavor and loads of complexity. I will have to age some and try again because the palate could be great and the nose could use some calming. As is, one of the most intense flavors I have tried. The wild yeast I’m sure accounts for some of the notable complexities but does not impart any unwanted characteristics. Certainly an interesting IS but I look forward to trying this one in some time.

It poured a pitch dark liquid with a small brown foam. The aroma was filled with chocolate, nuts and coffey. It had a taste of dark chocolate, nuts and coffey. It was also sour and sweet, something that I didn’t expect. The alcohol was well hidden and I didn’t expect to see 11% on the label.
