Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Nov 7, 2009 (Bottle, Bar & Cigar, Oslo, 5 nov 2009. Labeled "Norse Porter") Black colour with frothy, pale brown head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with notes of roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate, raisins and sweet coffee. Malty, roasted taste with dark berries, raisins, cherries, chocolate, dark coffee and cocoa. Mild cocoa bitterness in the finish. More than medium body with some sweetness lingering throughout. Starts with fruit and berries, with chocolate and coffee taking over after a while. Complex and very well balanced. Lovely porter! Fin (3376), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Nov 4, 2009 Courtesy of Ian ’Harrisoni’ (cheers mate) I had some of this at the Borefts Beer Festival, De Molen Brewery, Bodegraven, Netherlands 30-10-09 Pours black with some beige bubbling, soft bubbles in the mouth, touch of a sour tinge, some coffee. Nice beer but at times came across as a touch thin and watery, but likeable and tasty. A6 A4 F6 P4 Ov13 3.3 fidel (882), Livermore, California, USA Nov 4, 2009 Poured very black, roasted malts, nutty, coffee, little dark chocolate, slight dark fruit. Kestral (191), Oslo, Norway Oct 24, 2009 Bottle at Håndtverkerstuene. Pours dark, dark brown with a light brown creamy head. Aroma is sweet and fruity, with some roasted and burnt notes, some yeast and faint alcohol. Raisins, chocolate and coffee is added in the flavour, where the burnt notes is complemented by an ashy and smoky character. Body is medium, carbonation is a bit sharper than I’d like. gyllenbock (238), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 15, 2009 Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Grimstad. Norway. Dark brown with a brownish head. The smell was burnt tones with clear elements of chocolate and coffee. I did also find some traces of soy.
Norse Porter tastes like chocolate and espresso coffee. A little fruity tones were there too as well as roasted malt. The body was decent and the liquid rather smooth. The bitterness was not too high. After-taste was dry and did last for a while. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 11, 2009 batch#78, May ’07bottle.
Pours dark brown, thick mocha head.
Aroma had noticeable yeast, malts and chocolate with light bitetrness.
Flavor, yeasty, light spices, roasted malts and light chocolate.
Good carbonation, with light bitter hops. Overall finish was grainy, lots of chocolate and coffee. corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 27, 2009 Pours a very dark brown/black color with some very slight mahogany edges when held to a light source and a huge three finger frothy tan head. Very good retention, slowly fading into a lasting cap that leaves a good bit of chunky lacing.
Roasted malt aroma with hints of chocolate, caramel, oatmeal, toffee, nut and coffee.
Once again the roasted malt dominate the flavor with hints of oatmeal, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, hazelnut, burnt toast and a sweet dry finish.
