The beer was opaque dark brown with light brown foam. In the aroma I got mild sweet fruit, alcohol, and some coffee malt. In the flavor I swear I detected some oak. I also got mild dark roast malt, coffee/burnt malt, dark fruit, alcohol, and mild hops. As it warmed: I got chocolate on the nose and more burnt malt and alcohol. Palate-wise it was smooth.

Pours a very dark brown/black buyt yet has some mesmerizing deep amber tones from bottle to glass that are then not seen again. Head is steady as is carbonation. lacing is moderate. If there is any coffe used in this brew it is masterfully done. thats saying alot since my recent rant on the use of coffee in beer should equal prison time. Fresh almonds and vanilla in the nose and body. A slight tart that is enveloped by the chc malts and slowly leaks back into the finish. Some earthy basement tones at finish as well. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 8, 2008 Batch #78. Pours pitch black with a thick sticky dark brown head. Aroma is lovely, sweet milky/herbal chocolate character. A soft coffeeish roastiness and a nice whiff of sweet vanilla. Soft roastiness on the back. A touch of berryish character in the nose as well. The flavour is quite rich and comlex, sweet milk chocolate, coffee, earthy/woodiness and more roasty flavour on the back. Just a really rich, tasty, porter. Syd (903), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 5, 2008 Batch #79, brewed in June 2007, 1 pint .9 oz bottle pours black with a decent tan head that laces in sheets. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, malted milkshake, and some yeast. It smells great. The flavor is very lactic sour, bitter coffee, dark and burnt fruit, and just too aggressive cold. The palate is rich and smooth, but damn, this is just really over the top for a Porter. Much better as it warms! Serve at or above room temperature. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

Cocoa powder aroma. Fruity roasty.
Cocoa, coffee, lightly bitter roast malts, some vanilla. Very nice.

Dense creamy tan head with thick sheets of lace that crawl right up the sides of the glass. Huge coffee nose, along with strong strange scorched fruit notes. Big creamy, fizzy body. Overcarbonated for sure, but somehow it seems to work. Long coffee and baking chocolate finish. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours almost opaque, almost black, with a thin tan head. Sweet brown sugar and coffee nose. Medium body and full carbonation. Almost grainy coffee taste. Not exactly wrong, just not completely right. Maybe a bit salty on the finish?
