| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours nearly opaque black/brown with tall dense brown head. Aroma is toasted maltiness, some hints of cream and chocolate, as well as mild fruity sweetness way back there. Flavor is mild smokiness and bitter coffee notes counterbalanced by sweetish chocolate flavors. Some murky basement flavors creep in around the edges of the substantial malt giving it quite a bit of complexity. Finishes with a little burst of hop bitterness. Palate is chewy and full with a bit of oiliness. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA

The nose is an odd spiced wood and brown sugar smell, with some peppermint or leafy, green mint scents as well. Sharp and lactic on the tongue, with some strong oak, dry graham crackers, sour toffee and peanut brittle malt flavors, finishing with an earthy soil and grit flavor, reminding me of coffee grounds, with dry, ashy quality. talon1117 (624), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 24, 2008 Brewed 05-07, BB 05-10. Pours black with ruby highlights and a tan, full, fluffy head which lasts for a good deal of time and leaves scatered lace. Nose is simple but pleasant; cocoa, toasty dark chocolate, lightly roasted coffee, and a faint toasted caramel note. Flavor is similar with lots of chocolate notes, mostly dark chocolate but semi-sweet as well, some mocha coffee notes with a mild acidty, and some light cedary hops which complete the moderate bitterness. Palate is almost medium, lively, and silky but a tad watery. Finish moderate length and is bittersweet with dark chocolate, coffee, and hops; only a little bit of dryness. The beer does have some great qualities like the rich malt notes in the nose and a bit in the flavors and the appearance is nice. A bit too simple and the palate is a lacking but overall a solid porter. ryan (1778), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Approaches excellent...Pours very dark brown with some lighter brown highlights. Enormous tan/mocha head eventually settles to a finger or so of a frothy, rocky cap. Sweet chocolatey aroma with some element of coffee. Mouthfeel is a little fizzy and has a little more heft and texture than alot of porters. Fairly smooth and lightly oily. Big, broken, weepy rings of lacing. Flavor is pretty big and bold - sweet chocolate in the fore blanced by bitter coffee. Notes of coffee with cream. Medium bitter. Lingering bitterish coffee and chocolate aftertaste. Pretty nice. heemer77 (4305), Savannah, Missouri, USA
