Big, brown head. Roasted malt and coffee, hints of liqorice and salt, ok bitterness. A nice, but not a very good porter. Nøgne Ø has done it, Haandbryggeriet has a way to go. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Pours a deep brown with atomic mocha cloud of head. A bit fo surviving lace at the end. Aromas include a mild roasted barley and malt, a tad of coffee and chocolate malt and caramel. The taste, though never sweet, balances many elements of the above: the roast, the malt, the toffee/caramel, the coffee. It is well done and robust, though not getting extreme point. I particulaly care for its soft mouthfeel of creaminess, and in that it is an excellent porter. This 2007 batch rated at 6.5% abv, and a pricey purchase from Premiere Gourmet. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Courtesy of Degarth. Dark brown or very black body, whichever it is it’s almost completely opaque. Creamy, bubbly dark tan head, about 2 fingers thick. Mostly lasting and leaves good lacing once the head recedes. Nose of bitter roasted/charred beans, spent coffee grounds, dark bitter chocolate, green pistachios and burnt candied sugars. Flavor composition carries over from the aroma, with the emphasis on the coffee and chocolate notes, but still the annoying and seemingly out of place green nutty notes everywhere. Also pick up a good amount of hop spice towards the back of the palate. Light to medium bodied, pretty much boring to drink. Finish is medium length, chocolate, coffee beans, roasted malts and hops. Something just struck me as odd or out of place with this beer and as a result soured the whole experience for me. Not what I was expecting this one to be. Holdwine (909), Beertimore, Maryland, USA

Sweet chocolate and great roasted malt nuttiness oozes from every sip. Full mouthfeel and a nice tidy finish. Looking forward to their other offerings ebarnes (213), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

Pours midnight black with a never ending deep tan head that leaves lacing all over the glass. Smells of smoked malts, chocolate and coffee. Flavor is exceptional. Coffee and chocolate. Smokey charcoal and roasted malt. I liked this one.
