| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 28, 2008 I picked this up while visiting Portland, OR and making my way out to the Astoria area.
Appearance: Pours black, very black. Someone here used the term "motor oil" to describe it. I would say that is very accurate. Big head on this one as well.
Smell: Raisin, sweet, chocolate. Actually I poured this about 5 min ago and just set it aside to let it settle and warm up. I can pick up some of that aroma sitting here in my recliner away from the glass.
Taste: roasted malt flavor. I can taste the chocolate, like bakers chocolate and the light bitterness in the after taste. I also get sweet under tones in the taste.
Overall: This is an impressive dark porter. The malts come through but not over powering. This is definitely a very pleasant beer that can be enjoyed by any dark beer lover. blutt59 (2169), Dallas, Texas, USA

Aroma has some hints of dark malts, plums, barley, and vanilla. Flavor begins with a roasted malt and coffee taste that goes to a lightly sweet and burnt middle of vanilla, smoke, and malt, with a creamy and roasted coffee bean finish. Leaves a bit of chocolate on the tongue. Very carbonated. Vac (2394), San Diego, California, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2008 16.9 oz bottle. Pours black with a very large mocha head that lasted until mid glass and left partial lace. Pleasant aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. As the beer warmed an aroma of dirty leaves emerges which I am assuming is the hops which competes against the malt and chocolate. The flavor is heavily roasted malt with some chocolate followed by some roast and hops bitterness. Dry at the finish with the dryness lingering for about ten seconds after the swallow. A solid porter although a bit too heavily hopped for my tatstes at least for a porter. fredandboboflo (1417), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 30, 2008 Bottle, Norse Porter, best by 11/09 (I think). Aroma of roasted malt, roasted nuts, light coffee, chocolate, marshmallow, candied fruit, sweet tones. Flavor very earthy with lots of nuts, chocolate, a reduced quantity of that same marshmallowy sweetness, all backed up by a mildly roasted, rich maltiness. Very nice mildly bitter finish. Great brew.
