Lovely 0.5l swingtop bottle brought from Germany by a friend (thanks Daniel!)
Beautiful hazy deep amber/brown colour, medium sized firm tan head that went away very slowly. The nose is... hmm... burnt malt, chocolate, some coffee and alcohol. Nice. Lovery malty taste, some burnt malt, toffee and caramel, smooth taste balanced by some sharp hoppy bitterness in the late taste, that while not that brilliant, avoids being crude, and complements the taste. Some dark fruit emerges from time to time. Warming. A very nice beer, underrated in my opinion, that restored my faith in doppelbocks. Funny... this says "the strongest müncher" on the label, but is obviously weaker by 0.1% than Salvator. Still, Animator beats its Paulaner counterpart easily in my opinion. Again, a very nice beer.

Golden with red shine, thick head that stays long, nice laces; Quite big warm deep nose with loads of character, malty sweet, barley, straw, dough, a little chocolate and cinnamon, further back slight hoppy citrus; Huge sweet warm body turning into long very alcohol warm finish again with loads of character, mostly white bread, but also a little clove, vanilla, spicy honey and licorice. Great, great beer , super exiting and complex (thanks to Joss).

Terribly smooth beer with a mellow, almost too mellow nose. Hops appear nicely on this one underneath the tongue. Fine example of a German strong ale.

Swing-top bottle (set by joss, dankeschön!): Hazy, amber coloured, small off-white fluffy head, lacing a bit; sweet-malty, caramelly nose with a bigger fruity (raisins), vinous touch; sweet and astonishingly bitter flavour, full bodied, but not too "fat"; only a touch of sweetness in the long dry bitter finish. Surprisingly easily drinkable Doppelbock, well balanced with well hidden alcohol, regarding its strength. A gem.......

Bottle, from Fabeers in York.Hazy red bronze, good off white head and moderate condition. Gentle fruity raisin aromas with hints of grain, roasted barley and alcohol. Obviously strong in the mouth with lots of sweet raw graininess and caramel and some background chocolate and prune Dubbel like notes. Gently warming alcoholic finish that starts sticky sweet and ends with a lingering bitter dryness. Not in the same league as a Salvator but otherwise leaves you pleasantly animated.
