For Doppelbock standards it definetly fits the mold. The aroma is sweet and mildly fruity. The taste has a slight chocolate flavor with a mild bitterness. Not a very sweet doppelbock, but just enough to tantilize the tastebuds. maeib (4776), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 4, 2006 Bottled. A slightly hazy dark brown beer with a hint of red and some short-lived beige coloured head. The aroma and taste are sweet and sugary even by doppelbock standards. Lots of caramel notes and fruity malts. The alcohol also is very apparent and there is a certain comfy leather armchair feel and taste to it. The mouthfeel is big and the finish is very long. Perhaps a little too sugary for some tastes, but I love my doppelbocks. Good heart-warming stuff. brauen (25), Crown Point, Indiana, USA

You can smell the alcohol in this one, not enough to mask the great aromas. Carmel malts, hops and alcohol scents. Chocolate sweet malt flavor with a hint of citrus and the hops dont hide. Just over all very rich and balanced. One of the best Doppelbocks, definately worth it if you can find it! JorisPPattyn (5193), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 16, 2006 Very dense, dark yellow head, fast gone; very hazy brown beer with some orange-brandylike highlights. Bready, eggnogg, slightly sweet, alcohol, faint parsley and chocolate aroma’s. Alcoholic & vinous, there’s some hops apparent with moderate bitterness. This is way beyond ordinary Doppelbock, going towards Old ale or Barley wine. Mandarine peel, Mandarine Napoléon, touches of bitter chocolate. With a serious warming up, almondy from the alcohol, and, would you believe it, diacetyl. Well bodied, slick to nearly oily and viscous. Very good Doppelbock, complex à souhait. Wonder if "Heinikin" are going to let it remain this way. bierkoning (6103), La Tropica, Netherlands

Raisin, cherrry and a touch of chocolate in the aroma. Roasted malt, chocolate, raisin and some earthy hops in the flavor. malty sweet, full bodied. Thick mouthfeel. Excellent and quite delicious beer. EithCubes (2176), Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 6, 2006 Swing-top bottle from joss (thanks!). Aroma is spicy with oranges/peels, sweet malt, caramel, grape, and a distant note of alcohol. Amber-colored with a beautiful, creamy, orange and light brown head. Alcohol is a bit stronger in the mouth but still less than expected at 8.2%, and with no heavy terminal burn. Sticky, spicy, very malty flavor; grape comes on at the end to trump orange, spicy malt beats out both. Caramel could be stronger. Medium-bodied, hops become assertive after the first quarter-liter. Finish can’t decide - dorsal palate and throat are dry, ventral palate and lips are still sticky-sweet. On the whole, and excellent Doppelbock. MoritzF (5096), Bochum, Germany
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 28, 2006 (swing top bottle) Cloudy hazy orange-amber colour with a fluffy beige foam. Sweet malty, slightly toasted aroma with caramel and a tinge of fruitiness (dark berries). Sweetbitter flavour, medium to full body, moderate carbonation. Strong malty and slightly toasty taste with caramel and raisins; lasting malty finish, slightly bitter and herbal hoppy. Very quaffable, almost easy-going Doppelbock. Big thanks to Joss for this hard to find gem. ogivlado (3095), Zagreb, Croatia
