Dances around a chewy side then lances down a earthy tone. A very decent Oktoberfest....i can’t wait for Oktober! TerryR (383), Oswego, Illinois, USA

Sweet malty flavor with some roasted notes. Smooth finish. Fall beers are a lot more interesting than most summer beers. Extra points for the history of the style. Just need some hendel to go with this delicious brew. Sweet malty aroma. Chewy white head that lasted. Strong malt flavor at the start finishing w/ a nice hop edge. I just need a Mass and some lederhosen and I’m back... drpimento (842), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 15, 2006 I had this last night at Bodega downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin. It just arrived at the bar in both bottles and on draft. I had a mug of draft and a bottle poured into the same kind of mug to compare side by side. The draft was very obviously lighter in color and after tasting lighter in body, flavor, and aroma. In fact the draft is a bit watery/thin. Both had light head with a bit of lace that faded. Mild flavor. Sadly has continuously gone downhill since days of yore. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 14, 2006 Amber in appearance, very minimal head. Aroma and flavor have plenty of toasted malt and caramel. Getting a really strong fruit character out of this, quite the turn-off. Finishes sort of metallic, with residuel sugars. Just average at best. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 9, 2006 To truly appriciate this beer, you kind of need a salty first full sausage or some other saline rich foods. It is beacuse there is such a precise balance hiding behind those sweet malts up front. Nothing is pushed forward with out an equally forceful counter step, whther it is the dry body that follows the caramal sweet nose, or the strong finishing note following the surprisingly light-footed body. I wonder why the American craft versions rate higher than this precisely crafted version. They show off more I guess. This is a beer on a lie detector: nothing but the truth.
