Slighty sour aroma, with a light maltiness a bit of pepper, subtle yeast but not to much bread. Light Copper color with a large and frothy white head, the germans are masters of displaying frothy head. Clear color looks nice and inviting. A sweet touch begins the drink followed by a nice slightly sour to very mildly bitter finish. Maybe a touch of metal, slight iron I think. Nice ceral finish. Very tight carbonation very full of bubbles but the viscosity is light and goes down quickly. Good lightly roasted beer, with light touches of carmel. Good and easily drinkable. after4ever (2776), Brier, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 1, 2006 500ml. Pours a medium amber with a bit of quickly dissipating white head. Pleasantly billowing sweet malty bread on the nose, though the billowing calms down as quickly as does the head. Lots of yeast and bread on the palate, very little hop. In the end, there’s not much happening here. bkurtz (276), Peru

One month past best before date. Amber color, dense head. Pear and just a touch of dust in the aroma. Malty but vinous beer. Raisin and hops in the background, even a touch of cinnamon. Butterscotch and some bitterness in the aftertaste.

A fresh sample bought in Nordhorn was much better. Loads of malt and toffee in the aroma. Medium to full bodied. malty sweet flavor, bready, cake, pear. Grassy hopbitterness in the aftertaste. Lovely well balanced beer. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 18, 2006 12oz "Original Oktoberfest" with Amber Marzen written just below. Clear dark gold to orange color with very thin white head. Strong malt aroma. Mostly lightly roasted or Vienna type malts. There is also a subtle hint of yeast too. The aroma is truly mouth watering. Tasty malty flavor. Nice, but not too sweet, grain malt flavor followed by some sweeter malts. At the same time the sweet malts hit some bitter hop flavor enters the picture to reign in the sweetness. Excellent October-fest beer. Most in this style end up being too sweet for my tastes. But not this one. eaglefan538 (2383), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2006 This one didn’t do much for me within the style. Poured with a better head than some of the others of its class and with the normal amber-orange color. The aroma was somewhat caramel-like and malty. The flavor featured caramel malts, low roastedness (I would have liked more), even some grassiness (which I’m not a fan of). For an original German, not overly impressive. Too sweet and nothing to help balance it out. I’d drink it again, but I’d certainly choose a few others over this one, which is surprising #3 on the site (within style) as of today. Aromas of stewed veggies and sweet malts spew forward. Medum nectar w/ mellow residual effers. The texture is thin and soft. Big fruity malts, w/ said stewed veggies and herbs. The finish is bttered gently and leaves a lingering malty sweetness to ponder.
