CaptainCougar (4637), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 4, 2008 50cl bottle: Pours a cloudy light copper bronze with a frothy, creamy, spotty-lacing white head. Authentic aroma of sweet malted wheat and banana fruity esters with a touch of clove spice and bready Bavarian yeast. Body starts with good fullness and carbonation with a decent sweet malted wheaty flavor throughout, balanced with drier clove spice and doughy yeastiness. Seems to have a touch more darker toasty caramel notes than a typical hefeweizen and could use maybe a little more sweetness, but still a pretty nice beer. merlin48 (349), Henderson, Kentucky, USA Sep 1, 2008 500 ml swingtop pours a dirty orange/gold body with a generous offwhite head. Aroma of banana, clove, wheat, and faint lemon. Creamy body with average carbonation. Taste has a clove and coriander spiciness, complimented by prominent banana, faint orange, bready wheat, and yeast. Cinnamon notes emerge as it warms. A good hefe. level4 (17), New Jersey, USA Aug 29, 2008 Cloudy dark brown with thick white head. Banana, yeast, spices, funk, sweetness. Smells funky too. This was decent. joeyplush (47), Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 29, 2008 Pours a dark amber color, slightly cloudy, with a thick white head that sticks around and good lacing. Has the usual banana and bubble-gum flavors of a Hefe, with a bit of a metallic taste in the first few sips. Darker than many Hefe’s also has a light hint of coffee in the taste in the finish.
Guerde (473), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Aug 21, 2008 (bottle thanks JK) pours hazy orange-brown with a white head. Aroma is very strong with scents of banana, strong bubblegum (which had me thinking this was a weizenbock at first), bready yeast, and light spicy clove. Flavors are also similar with tastes of banana, spice (notably clove and now cinnamon), with some bready yeast on the finish changing to a more lengthy crisp wheat finish. The mouthfeel is quite full. This was a very good hefeweizen, and is incredibly underrated.
