jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Dec 8, 2008 500ml bottle-pours a rich off white head that laces and amber/copper color. Aroma is banana, wheat-caramel, clove/spice. Taste is banana, wheat/light-medium malt-caramel, clove/spice. Nice, smooth/creamy mouth feel with mild effervescence. The individual rating components were higher than the total package/beer. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out. mattmc1973 (300), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Dec 6, 2008 Pours a hazy golden color with frothy white head. Aroma of pears, banana, white, and spice. Taste of wheat, malt, and fruity sweetness. Smooth carbonation and quenching. Very nice hefeweizen! couchand (182), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Nov 20, 2008 The star pours a cloudy sandy brown, with hints of russet. The head is just-off-white, creamy, and lasts. The nose is quite strong of fresh bananas, with notes of cloves and spices and a hint of caramel.
As the beer pours towards your tongue you feel a rush of banana and caramel, and when it hits are notes of biscuits and malt. There is a light sweetness, accented by the fact that this is not nearly as effervescent as most German hefeweisse beers. Playful, fruity, and quite drinkable. This would be a great summer beer. Too bad it’s cold and wet out now.
By the way, I love this label. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Nov 17, 2008 10/22/2008: Hacker-Pschorr Sternweisse has a cloudy, deep amber-gold color with a surprisingly dense and puffy white head. The aroma presents some wheat malt, yeast, and a light spiciness. The flavor is dry with some undertones of smoke (beechwood), banana, and clove with a good level of yeast training behind and a splash of lemon. The body is light and moderately carbonated, but refreshing overall. In the hierarchy of hefes, I would put this somewhere between a regular hefe and a dunkelweizen as there is a bit more malt, yet it is dry in the mid-palate. Overall this is an intriguing wheat beer that is very flavorable and definitely worth drinking time and time again - especially during the Summer months...
